Anyone else feel like trading scams have gotten a lot worse since New Horizons came out? I used to regularly trade in Facebook groups, on here, wherever and never have any problems on Acnl.
Since the release date I’ve had to stop trading anywhere I can’t see a rating. People have gotten outrageous with entry fees and I’ve had at least half a dozen people take fees or payment then disconnect. Am I just having bad luck or have other people noticed this too?
It's because of how mainstream the game has become. Sadly, a few of the mean newbies like to abuse the system. Just be careful and stick to trustworthy sites with ratings, etc basically
i haven’t had any negative experiences so far but then again, i haven’t been trading as much as i did with new leaf. but that’s why i only trade on here and on sites that have a rating system so that i know who to trust and who to avoid
It’s really unfortunate. I’ve slowly been moving back onto here. I had a Facebook group I’d been trading in for 5 years that I’ve had to stop using due to people ruining my island and posting scams. I feel like NH is more designed around needing to trade to get diys, fruits, flowers etc. but the community has made it more difficult.

I've only had 2 people to my island. One for a fruit trade, and she stayed only long enough for that.
The 2nd was someone who wanted Snake. On the way back, he asked if he could check Ables', which was fine. He was a bit short for the outfit he wanted, so he asked if he could fish a bit to get the Bells. Again, because he asked, I said okay. He caught just what was needed, sold them, bought the clothes, and said goodbye.
I guess maybe I’ve been just been unlucky, I done a fair bit of trading and I opened my town up for Celeste and high turnip prices without a fee. I had people take fruits and picks flowers when specifically asked not to, and had someone steal an item I accidentally left on the ground. My friend had similar issues with people stealing from a cataloguing event.
I think what helps here is our rating system. Since people can leave negative feedback for you if you are less than courteous, it just takes a quick glance to see if that person has generally caused problems or not.

I had some issues in City Folk and WW before. I think we just see things with rose tinted glasses.
Though recently I got some randos come to my town and try to steal all of my freebies I had set out. luckily they only got away with one.

The only time I ever did that was for amiibo cards (that also worked out fine). There are a few bad apples but staying here has ensured that I pretty much only trade with good people ^_^ Any posts that are asking for too much, I just ignore anyway. And since I like the random move in thing I don't look around for my dreams. If I really wanted, I have every amiibo card now so I never have to worry about getting scammed. But yeah. TBT has all the good people <3
