too many of one personality type conundrum

Most of my villagers are normal. I've always loved them, almost all of my favorites from the first game are normal villagers. Right now, I have 5 of them. I'm probably going to up that to 7 at least.

I do wish they'd up the amount of villagers we could have in total, so I can have my favorites while also having one of every other personality type. I'm really hoping they will possibly update it in the future so we can, but I'm also not going to get my hopes up.

(Found this thread through a Google search, hopefully this isn't considered "necro'ing"!)

Of course it’s up to you, however at one point I had 3 lazies and the dialogue was definitely very much the same and kinda boring after a while. Didn’t feel very exciting to talk to any of them, so I personally try to have one of each personality.

Pretty sure personality types affect which DIY recipes you get when villagers craft if that matters to you. Otherwise its your town do whatever you want :)

I struggle to choose my faves but I am trying to have 1 of each personality always so I can have fun dialogue and crafts

i have four smugs currently, and i love them... but i know reactions are locked behind personalities so i'll need to get a normal at some point if i want to collect them all. now i have to figure out if i want to drop colton or not, and if i do, which normal i should get. it's a conundrum for sure lol

I've tried having the villagers I want, but in the end I got a bit burnt out by the same dialogue, which is why I try my best to have variety on my island. As much as I loved the villager at the time, maybe it just wasn't the right moment for them to move onto my island since I couldn't just appreciate them and got tired of their dialogue.

Each personality has a sub category. I have three normal villagers in my town with very little repeated dialogue. Poppy (education) Merengue (nature) and Skye (music). I had Poppy and Wendy at one point and their dialogue was exactly the same and it drove me crazy.

Yeah I have the exact same problem, except I have like one snooty villager (Judy)

but the rest are all like normal, lazy or smug

The villagers dialogue is so dry and repetitive regardless of their set personality, so just pick which ones you like best. If anything try to pick which ones you like best from each personality type that you have to make it more varied

I prefer a combo. I want villagers I want but having 3 or 4 normals I like at one time makes me like them less because they repeat each other.

whoa man, I thought me wanting 3 lazies was overboard. that's kinda rad
that feel when your island is literally just a book club lol

i think it’s more important to choose the villagers that you want. imo, unless repetitive dialogue gets to you, there’s not really any downfalls to having multiple of the same personality ;u;

I totally understand this. I currently have 4 normals and 3 lazies. I’m just following my heart but I am more likely to let go of ones whose personality type i have many of when i start to lose my connection with them. I am personally planning on getting a peppy and smug (i dont have either now) so I can experience their personality types even though I’m not too particular about balancing things out.

heyy I saw your post before you edited it man. just wanted to say I appreciate your effort lol. good to know pietro and julian are both singers, that explains why they had a 5 hour long karaoke concert together tonight, just the two of them
yes, I ship them

I prefer the variety myself - like you (and many others!) I really love the Normal villagers, but their dialogue gets very boring after a while, so I limited myself to 2 Normals and 2 Jocks, then 1 of every other personality, and I really like this set up a lot more. After diversifying a bit, I also found that different personalty types seem to give certain DIYs and reactions too, so there's another perk to having all the personality types.

I still have a Jock villager, a Lazy villager, a Peppy villager, a Smug villager, and an Uchi villager, so not quite a bookclub. My personal favorites out of those are Jock, Lazy, and Peppy.

But hey, ultimately, the island and everything about it is almost entirely up to the player. If I decide one day I want all Normals and Lazy characters, so be it! Same with if I ever want to make my island full of, I don't know, kangaroos, or only green villagers. :)

I completely agree. I don't mind the repetitive dialogue since I love said personality. But again, it's not for everyone, of course. This game, and pretty much the entire series, is great because it's pretty much all up to the player.

I'm sitting at 3 crankies and 3 smugs on my island. Eventually they'll move on from my island but honestly, get whoever you want. It might get a little repetitive but you can get used to it for the ones you love I find

Do what you want, I'm the proud owner of 2 lazies, 2 normals, and 2 peppies. I don't give a crap, I love marina more than any old jock and goldie is a doggo. Hopkins is the cute inflatable, you don't question Bob, last but not least Rosie is forever and Audie is a favorite of my mom and I so she aint ever leavin'

I think you need a balance. Find villagers that you like, but after a while you might want some diversity (dialogue and DIY wise). I will have 6 normal tomorrow... Oops. Add that to two Lazy, I am seriously lacking some diversity.

But I'm lucky that I like some changes so rotating my villagers isn't an issue. I will remove one or two Normal with my amiibo cards. But I will not add a villager I dislike or don't care about just because it is a type I don't have.
