thoughts on time travel?

Having played with them, I lost many a time traveler due to them burning themselves out faster than I did. Like WAY faster. Sure, they unlocked all their shops in a day, got 100 million bells from the post office letters (and people say tt-ing to collect money isn't cheating, uh huh, hmmmm), and had the 500 day tree a month into playing, but look at them now. That was in 2013, and they all told me they've grown tired of playing- gee, I wonder why, maybe because you didn't play it in real time, one of the selling points to Animal Crossing! Blowing through it quickly means you're going to illegitimately achieve certain milestones ahead of others. That's what I like about the town tree, it shows that I really put 500+ days into this game, unlocking everything as time progressed, and really earned what I got (sitting under it verifies it too). Taking it day-by-day was the whole point, the game is set in real life time, and not many games are. The first commercial Nintendo used in 2002 pitched the game as a Real World (tv show) type game where 4 people live in this town, just like in real life.

I personally looooovee time traveling. Yet, I highly respect those who don't! They have to have a lot of patience.

I have time traveled ever since I was a little girl and was playing Wild World.
(except, I time traveled then to get 10k bells every year lolll)

I time travel now for things like pwps, villagers moving away, villagers coming to my town, and shop items. Depends on my day, but I tend to go ahead one day every time I play. For example, when I started up my game today it was 1/5/15. Now, it's 1/6/15. When I get too far ahead, I will set my clock back to the current date. (I did that yesterday, which is why I am only ahead one day now.)

But yeah, I totally dig anyone who doesn't time travel. Lots of patience and proper planning goes into that. A++ effort!

I'm against time traveling because I feel like that's not how the game was meant to be played. I think it's a lot more fun to do everything like it's real-life, and enjoy watching the seasons change. (*?・v・) Even though I watch summer change to fall every year, it still gets me so riled up to see new seasons approaching!! ♥(。→v←。)♥

I respect people who time travel though, because not everyone is willing to risk losing their favorite villager possibly for somebody else (if you're a cycler)! And I don't put any hate towards anyone who time travels. After all, Nintendo put it in the game, so if it's there, it would be completely unfair to tell people it's wrong to use something given to them. Basically, it's like putting a plate of food in front of someone and then punishing them for eating it.

And some people just don't want to wait through winter or whatever season, and some people just want to get that certain villager. It really makes me happy to see people time traveling just to help other people in the community! ?・ᴗ・` Not that everyone does (of course people like to help themselves too), but the fact that some users would do anything for someone else makes me feel like the world isn't always cruel. ; v ;

Correlation does not imply causation. Some people just get bored regardless of whether the TT or not. I know plenty of non-TTers that got burnt out within weeks of the game coming out. Meanwhile I, an avid TTer, have consistently played the same town since release date. And before that I kept a Wild World town for five years until my save data became corrupted.

I also resent the implication that TTers did not ?really? earn what they have. Just because someone doesn?t share your playstyle doesn?t mean that they didn?t put the same amount of time or effort into their game as you did. All it means is that they got things quicker.

P.S: The amount of bells that you get from the post office each month doesn?t really make a significant difference unless you TT 84 years ?which is, by the way, how long it would take to gain 100M in interest.

regarding the above post on takkng your time in acnl.. i still havent unlocked the Cafe after playing since the release date. But its my preference to take it slow.

I dont really like the tters who brag about getting loads of bells because they tt. There was a guy once who came to my town and when I told him I had 6 million in the abd he laughed and then left? He tted so much he had like 100 million or something from selling and interest and stuff.. He had also completed the game and got bored

I haven't done any time traveling in this game yet, though I'll admit I've done it in some of the past games (in secondary towns). I don't really have any problems with people that do, either. As far as I'm concerned, it's up for everyone to decide how they want to play the game.

I used to be a very avid TTer, and I personally have no problems with it. After all, if it WAS cheating, then it wouldn't be implemented in the game to change the date. But I'm doing the One Year Challenge, so no TTing for me. I'm not sure if it's just a change in my thoughts, but I'm along pretty well without TTing so far and I feel no urge to do so. I guess it's because I'm not forcing myself out of it, and I have a group of people backing me up.

Honestly, I would love to be able to play day by day and slowly enjoy the game but my schedule doesn't allow that.

I time travel so I get a chance to play each new day, sometimes I'll play two or three in a day if I know that I won't have a chance to pick it up again for a few days. If I didn't time travel my shops would never be open because I usually play really late at night.

It's a really nice feature for me because I can still enjoy the game with a crazy schedule that doesn't allow me to play every day.

aww I think you have the most well thought-out and kind answer :3 thank you for that~

I think TT is a stupid thing to argue about - everyone has bought their own game, so who are we to judge what they do with their own game? :)
I personally do not TT, but I'm very thankful for those who do, like cyclers, because they often help others with getting their dreamies!

I've TT'd in WW, but I decided to play New Leaf how it goes so that I can truly enjoy every season. I don't understand the arguments either-I've never once ridiculed a TTer, and I don't think anyone should. After all, it is their game. They can do whatever they want with it.

I time travel and I wish I didn't. I can go about a month at a time without time traveling, and I have more fun that way - but then I decide I need to do something, like breed hybrids or finish up some PWPs or get further in cataloging and I mess it all up. I'm stuck in September right now and I don't think I'll be able to catch up with real-time. :(

I time travel for only really cool PWPs. I time travled for my TH and TS remodeling and my Light House. Also to get Gracie Grace to come to my town. Also I did it another time because my sister wanted to catch beetles at night. Other than that I don't TT. I think it's ok as long as you don't do it for money but it's your own call.

Here's the thing about the "right" way to play though: there isn't one. And I would even venture to say that the game wants you to time travel, at least a little bit. Here's why.

So much of AC:NL encourages us to take things slow. The only things in the game you're punished for are running (by ruining your flowers), keeping your mailbox full (losing letters), and time traveling (by destroying your town). These suggest that you need to be taking things slow, not rushing. Walk to your destinations. Be sure to do all the daily chores you need to get done. Don't ignore your responsibilities for too long.

The characters also ask you to take a break if you've been playing the game for too long, encouraging you to do other things than play a video game all day. (My favorite request is the Lazy one: "I suggest spacing out and staring at the sky, [catchphrase].")

But the option is still provided and no one stops you.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf has remarkably provided the player with a sense of Free Will.

If we pay attention to the story of Tom Nook and the Able Sisters (and I'm talking the continuity between GC > WW > NL), we learn something too. Starting with Wild World, Tom Nook moved to the big city to accomplish something huge... and it didn't end up being right for him. He returns to the town, but isn't quite the same. By New Leaf, he's happy in his Real Estate job, right where he should be. The same general story applies to Labelle and her Gracie label as well: they all returned to the relaxing life at home.

I think we're meant to make mistakes, and learn from them in our own time and by our own way.

I dont like time traveling but I understand why some do. Imo is ruins the quality of the kind of game I want to play, I don't want to half complete my town overnight, y'know (exaggeration but yeah). It's giving me something to look forward to ("By summer, my house should be completed!). I sometimes feel like I'm missing out sometimes, though, and that I'm behind everyone else. But it's how I like to enjoy it, I hope there are some other people who play like me so that I'm not so lonely :p

Time traveling is whatever, I don't see why it gets a bad rap. I usually only time travel a few hours for the mail or if I'm playing when shops are closed. The most I time travel is a few days to get a villager in boxes sooner. I'm considering doing large leaps during the summer to finish my encyclopedias quicker.

wow time traveling is a crime i think people who do it are satanists

i rarely do it unless if something really important like villager stufff

I usually only time travel when I'm TTing a villager out or if I wanna go ahead and plot reset for a new one. Other than that I'm not much of a time traveller. But I agree, I don't see a problem with it. It's their game and they can do whatever they please without someone shoving "rules" down their throats.
