This probably sounds so random, but i was talking to a friend earlier and now im actually pretty curious about this. personally i have super pale skin, (im too pale for the lightest shade of makeup) and im not insecure about it or anything, but i feel like its considered conventionally attractive for white women to be tanned. Most people i talk to prefer tanned/dark skin, but i find it so interesting that japanese/korean cultures like to have really bright, fair skin. You definitely aren't hurting my feelings at all no matter what you prefer haha! Im just really curious :)

Honestly, I find all skin types beautiful :)
Also, I have super pale skin as well ~

I'm half asian and half french, so I have a super pale skin, everybody around me keep saying it. But personally I really like this color of mine. I'm not interested in changing and I find people with pale skin very beautiful !

It only really becomes a thing when I'm in bright sunlight where I can barely look at those kind of people (or my shoulders) without being blinded.

It's not just Japanese/Korean cultures. In almost every non-white culture, the ideal is having a fairer skin tone. It's due to the belief that fairness = wealth (e.g., if you have darker skin, you must be working some type of lower paying job out in the fields). In contrast, western cultures hold the opposite belief, that being tanned means you can afford to vacation, sunbathe, etc.

Although I have a preference for my own skin color, as my skin tone doesn't quite suit a tanned look, I should get no opinion on skin color and tone in general. That would be ridiculous.

i agree! and yeah, thats something i read about too, how fair skin was a sign of wealth and class because working-class would generally have to spend the day working outside.

I personally think getting tanned is over rated. Especially when people use fake tan, that just looks awful. I tan easily and wish I didn't.

I have super pale skin, but that's because most of the people in my family are blonds/redheads. (I'm kind of a strawberry blond-ish mix.)

I can get a tan, but only an extremely light one that is still lighter than most white people's skin normally is even without a tan. I just burn beyond that. It also doesn't take long for me to burn. 3 years ago I lived in Hawaii. Since Hawaii is closer to the equator, the sun is stronger there. If I didn't put on sunblock or wear a hat, I would burn within 30 minutes. I have really long hair, but the sun would somehow get through my hair and burn my frickin' scalp. You guys don't know how painful a sunburn is if you've never been burned on your head. It sucks. I wore hats a lot in Hawaii as a result.

I'm not albino or anything ridiculous. I just have a lot of redheaded Irish ancestors that have super pale skin.

I don't really care either way. I neither like nor dislike my skin color. It does irritate me when people comment on my lack of tan in the summer and ask me if I hide indoors all the time. Even when I don't, I just don't really tan.

I have very pale skin, never tan although I also never burn weirdly. I like my skin tone and I've never had any negative comments about it, quite the opposite. My tone contrasts nicely with my super dark long hair :).

I don't really have preferences of skin tones but I do slightly envy people who have a pretty dark olive tone to them.

I'm super pale as well, sometimes I believe I'm so white that the sun just reflects off me... because I don't burn that easily. XD
I don't mind being pale, why spend hours in the sun cooking/damaging your skin?

i really dont care what ur skin color is they're all equal/beautiful

Not a fan of the fake tan look, the orange skin. A sun-kissed glow as they call it can be nice in moderation, otherwise the extremism of any beauty regiment can be over the top and unattractive if taken too far. For myself personally, I prefer to be pale. I cannot tan regardless, my skin doesn't change, it just burns.

its ok to be pale and some people just don't get tan, but be aware that it can also be a sign, that your vitamin d level may be too low, if you never go out or so.. which can be problematic..
maybe ask your doctor, if they think it's ok, or you need supplements or so.

I'm a milk baby sadly. I'm Ginger except I don't have freckles and blue eyes. I can tan a little, but I need to stay 2737 hours in the sun..
Anyway, I can really help the color of my skin and when people point it out I'm like, 'Excuse me? I didn't chose what color my skin is.'

I find it extremely attractive.

As for myself, I have a super pale face, but my body is really tan. I try to cover up though so I can fade those tans.

This reminds me when I was going shopping and I saw a poster on a lamppost and there was a Korean guy and a white girl. When you look at them, the white girl had really yellow skin, and the Korean guy had like glowing WHITE skin. Pure white.

I'm pretty pale myself, which isn't bad at all until when I do tan, it's noticeable then. I never wear less than a T-shirt, and my hair is a bit longer, so there's some pretty obvious tan lines by the end of summer.

i have white skin in a dominantly dark-skinned country. my gosh the amount of people comparing my skin color is damn high and it bothers me tbh -.-

I'm pretty pale myself (well, that's an understatement. It hurts to look at my own skin in certain sunlight :p) I can't exactly tan either, since it fades within a day even if it's dark (which causes problems, especially at the beach haha.) I think it's pretty, personally.
