Since someone started a makeup thread, let's talk about something that truly angers me...makeup shaming.

I've noticed two main types of makeup shaming:
1) Shaming someone for wearing makeup the "wrong" way (i.e. orange foundation)
2) Shaming someone for wearing makeup...period ("this is why I have trust issues!!!")

And honestly, I just do not care in the slightest how people choose to wear their makeup. If they want to wear ten layers of foundation that is way darker than their real skin, fine! If you don't like to wear makeup at all, that's fine too!

I just think that makeup is a form of art and expression, and just because I don't personally like a particular style doesn't mean that it's a "bad" style and that no one should wear it. And yeah, in my head I'm probably thinking that their makeup looks awful, but I'm not going to say it to their face because it's none of my business and if that's what makes them feel beautiful, who am I to tell them they're wrong?

Anyway, what do you guys think of this?

Anyone can wear makeup. If they choose not to wear makeup that's fine, and I don't care how much makeup they use. I admit sometimes I look at people and I can tell they've plastered themselves with 20 layers of foundation, but I don't judge them for that. If it makes them feel more confident then why shame it?

Make-up shaming is bull**** please don't do it.

On the first one, if you don't like the color of someone's foundation or something, piss off. Unless you're that person's friend, then offer some kind advice as to what might look better on them or what foundation suits their skin tone better.

On the second one, piss off 10000%

I think it's dumb. Internet make up stars have a talent and they should share it and not be shamed for it. They might already have self esteem issues and commenting "trust issues much" on their before and after pictures is not helping. If you're one of those people, buzz off mate.

It's just really stupid in my opinion. People in this world refuse to hold their tongue when it comes to opinions. My opinion is just let people wear what they like! It's not our place to say what someone should and shouldn't put on themselves, it's their body.

There's a beauty guru/makeup artist on YouTube who always wears foundation that's 2-3 shades darker than her actual skin tone. She says that she knows it's not her colour, and she wouldn't suggest to clients to wear darker foundation, but she wears it because that's just what she likes on herself. And she still gets **** for it in EVERY SINGLE VIDEO, even though she has explained it multiple times. Sigh.

It's makes me so ****ing annoyed.

The "trust issues" thing is especially stupid like whose fault is it that you actually thought those eyeliner wings were real, just yours buddy.

Tbh the worst is when girls look at other girls and are like omg she has 20 pounds of makeup on its like first of all it's none of your business and second why bring a sister down like that

Well this is something new that I would have never known.

Look it's annoying. But you know what? People are petty and annoying. Makeup and and clothing and anything that shows you're doing something extra is super easy to comment on. Whether it's done good/bad etc. one of the main reasons why I find people annoying in general is because of these constant sly comments. You have to have confidence in yourself and ignore it.

Like criticism?
Since I wear makeup myself I tend to help the girls with simple makeup tips like foundation, lipsticks, etc

But I can care less if you wear makeup or don't.
But I guess it also depends on what look. I seen some people put on makeup and it looks like sht, I even seen some people who don't wear makeup and still look like sht(the ugly ones always say something tho).

i dont have a problem with make up in general. before i started using make up, i heavily judged it saying that it makes girls look fake, slutty, etc - but that was a few years ago. i apply mascara and eyeliner every day now and it started out as experimenting, but i sort of understood at that point why girls wear make up. it just enhances our already beautiful faces and builds on top of our self confidence and i see nothing wrong with that. i respect the use of make up and id use more if i could, but i cant even do a perfect winged eyeliner lmao, but i watch tutorials a lot so i can pick up on a few things

i just think a majority of the people who make up shame haven't even tried make up yet, based off of personal experience

Nothing wrong with criticism if it's asked for, especially when someone is new at makeup! But I'm talking more about people who just straight up insult someone's makeup or give unwarranted criticism.

You don't have to LIKE someone's makeup but there's no need to go and make them feel like crap. :C

If the purpose of the makeup is to look good in front of other people, then shouldn't the person wearing the makeup consider the opinions of other people whether good or bad in order to get an idea of what looks good?

I don't quite understand makeup, so apologies if this offends.

Ooh
Well all you have to do is laugh. I have this one girl at my school who criticize girls who do their eyebrows when she doesn't have eyebrows. I guess it's a sense of longing, I hate you for having something I don't!

Or they'll do the smart approach like "I don't need makeup I'm beautiful already!"
And you'll laugh again

Yes exactly!! I think of makeup like clothing or hair...you wouldn't go up to someone on the street and tell them their shirt looks awful, so why should makeup be any different?

It's my face I do whatever I want with it
I have to wake up and deal with it so I mind as well do whatever I want to feel comfortable with it
