I disagree with jokes regarding Transphobic & Homophobic content.

jokes that put other ppl down are generally not a good idea (including racist, homophobic etc jokes)
rape jokes and other jokes about serious trauma, suicide, illness etc. there are some exceptions but generally just don't joke about this, especially not if you aren't a survivor of it or something.

other than that idk

It really depends on the audience. I find some racist jokes to be funny (I'm Asian and I smile when people make jokes about our grades having to be perfect or else) while others may not.

You should be able to joke about everything (free speech) and humor's the ultimate coping mechanism.

i'm ok if it's like offensive but funny, like in the saturday night live they have some offensive jokes but they don't take it too far. but if it gets on the homophobic, transphobic train then i'd have to back out.

I have kind of a weird stance on this. I think you should joke about everything. I honestly think life is sort of...just a big joke that everyone takes too seriously. Now, if you offend someone, yeah, you should apologize. If you know a jewish person whose grandmother died in the holocaust, probably not a good time to make some jokes about nazis. But....I think it's really REALLY important to find the humor in life. If you take everything too seriously, you'll miss out on a lot of fun. And honestly...you can't really say anything at this point without offending someone, I think. I once posted a thread, (not on btb, this community has always been very chill and nice to talk to), about finding a good name. I came across the name Volodimir, but was told I couldn't use it because my book had nothing to do with Russia. Keep in mind, they knew nothing about my book, but still got angry for that one thing specifically. Now...the name is of Russian descent, but these people knew nothing about the character or the book, and honestly, names are just sounds that we use to identify one another with. I mean, no, you're not going to find someone named Takako in North America without SOME kind of japanese influence. But it became a HUGE ordeal, and it didn't need to be. I was just....looking for a name for a character with, really, no real history. Who knows? He could be Russian. His family could have been Russian. So....no, I don't know if there are things I would consider things you shouldn't joke about...just realize that there are offensive topics to specific people, and try not to start a words war. And if someone DOES get offended, acknowledge your mistake, apologize for offending anyone, and move on with your life.

Honestly, jokes about suicide/anxiety/mental illness usually upset me and I don't react well to them.
But I'm good with basically everything else though.

it definitely depends on the audience. some offensive jokes, or often ones that just hit too close to home, to some people wouldn't be as offensive to others. for me it's really just racial and jokes about abortion (srsly I've heard them all and just really? these shouldn't be a thing).

Many people are not able to talk or express there feelings ,about things in there life .humor breaks that chain and allows a person to bring and cope
with lifes problems big and small. Humor knows no bounds and can bring many people together that other wise would never be able to.
Many Gay and Transgander Comedians were able to find peace in there life after a rough childhood though comedy, there in lays its true power

Comedy gives so much to all and in return asks for nothing it is one of our Greatest gifts. (laugh once a day to keep bed bugs away) :p

My stance is don't joke about things that don't affect you. Like I can and will make tons of slavery jokes but never do I attempt to make holocaust jokes.

Basically what len and crys said. Don't make jokes about marginalized people/people with illnesses/disabilities since those "jokes" contribute to how society sees them as lesser.

You should be able to joke about everything (free speech) and humor's the ultimate coping mechanism.

Free speech just means people can't take you to court for making those jokes, it doesn't mean people can't tell you to shut up or that you're racist or something.

Also if you use humour to cope with something you can easily be funny without bringing in something that doesn't affect you.

Humour is not always appropriate and there are some things that just will never be funny nor should be joked about ... And when using humour to cope with painful subjects, (although this is a risky business at times) consider your audience ... You could unwittingly spread more pain and cause damage to others ... Why do that?

Who in society sees people with mental or physical disabilities or illnesses as lesser??? And how would joking influence that??? Please, inform me, since you're SO ****ing smart. I don't see them as lesser and I don't know a single person that does.

I'm all for your ability to tell me to shut up or call me whatever stupid thing you want. I'm not telling anyone they can't, unlike you who has no sense of humor about anything, ever, and think it's okay to dictate what others should and shouldn't say.
