I finally got around to watching the live action. It's been out for years, but I just never got to it. Same with Avatar the Last Airbender. I need to watch, but I haven't heard much about it so I'm not sure if it was good, just ok, or bad.
They really went all out on the background and sets for the live action. And the character designs are pretty good. I wasn't sure what to expect of the Fishmen, but they didn't do bad at all. It felt it took some time for them to land on their feet. The first few episodes were a bit hit and miss for me, but after Ussop's village it started to find its pace and I think it did pretty good.
I do think it's a bit 'too serious' for One Piece. I know they can't go full anime and cartoon. Especially since it will confuse and turn off a western audience unfamiliar with both anime and One Piece, but they could've found a middle ground between those two. Like Guardians of Galaxy found that middle ground. It's not impossible.

Yeah live action One Piece wasn't perfect since they changed some story details, likely for faster pacing, so maybe it felt rushed but I thought it didn't take away from the plot too much. I thought the actors were perfect for the characters, and agree the set designs were great. Also found out now we are not getting another season until next year. Seems to me that the story of One Piece went from being silly adventures to pretty serious awhile ago, especially considering the current story arc (although it was getting pretty dark before that). Oh yeah and starting next year we are getting a lot less episodes of the anime, more like a standard anime series length. Not sure how to feel about that, but as long as there are less repeated flashbacks I guess it's ok.

Yeah, I can't imagine the live action cast remaking Jango's Dance Carnival. I would be funny.

I never considered myself an anime fan, but my friend showed me Death Note earlier today and I was a lot more invested than I thought. The premise is fascinating and got me thinking. I'm also planning on watching Oshi No Ko and Legend of Black Heaven when I'm done with Death Note!
Welcome to the world of anime! I know many people write it off as not for them but with such a large variety out there you are bound to find something you like.

If you haven't watched the live action they cut Jango out of Ussop's village arc. They actually cut out a handful of characters probably to save time.

Lots of good stuff here. Which ones are you looking forward to? I'm going to watch the new seasons of Jujutsu Kaisen, Frieren, Fire Force, MHA Vigilantes, Trigun, Digimon, and maybe a couple of those newer series too if I find time for them in between all of those.

Looking back, 2025 has been a great year for anime. By now, everything I've been watching has either ended or is about to. Did you discover any new favorites this year? I watched several excellent continuations of old favorites, but if I had to pick one new series from this year that I liked the most, it's Gachiakuta. The animation, music, characters, and story; just everything about it was great.

I haven't. That might complicate things later, like when 4kids turned Laboon into an iceberg they blew up with a cannon.

lmao what? I never watched 4kids but that's hilarious lol! I don't think it will matter since most Netflix shows don't last a handful of seasons. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see the time skip or even earlier than that.

I vaguely remember this guy going into some detail about continuity issues. I don't know if that is in these 4kids deep dive videos. Maybe he watched that version at one point, and ranted a bit.
I'm not as optimistic. It might be funny to compare the two, or three versions.

Just recently watched One Piece episode 1155, concluding the Egghead arc. And it was one excellent final episode to finish this part of the story. There will be no more new episodes until the Elbaph arc begins next year, and I heard that is likely starting around April. Egghead turned out to be one of my more favorite story arcs for many reasons including all the big reveals, the animation quality, action scenes, introduction and development of various characters, and the decent pacing overall. I have several thoughts about these more recent episodes but maybe I shouldn't post anything too spoilery in case everyone watching isn't caught up yet.

I haven't watched any anime or read manga in a while, but recently I started watching Banana Fish for the first time - though I already completed the manga maybe three or four years ago. I'm really enjoying it now, especially since I don't think I understood half the themes in it since I was 12/13 reading it first and was ploughing through so many mangas that I hardly retained any information at all about any of them. But I'm really liking the style of animation in Banana Fish. My favourite character is, hands down, definitely Eiji. Just love him, he's such a contrast to the rest of the characters lol
I rewatched the Silent Voice movie recently too, it's literally a masterpiece. It's definitely one of my favourite movies. I love the storyline and the characters, as well as how Shoya's inability to face people is represented - the crosses falling off others' faces throughout the movie as he connects with them, and then at the end when he finally looks up and takes in the faces of everyone for the first time in a long time was just
