So I know that if I was to reset when someone leaves then someone else asks to move instead.. but what happens if I just ask them to stay.. how long will it take for someone else to ask to move ?

there's a cooldown period, i can't remember exactly how long, but i think it's around 15 days (at the minimum).

I've read that it's at least 5 days for someone else to ask to leave if you've picked the "stay" option, and at least 15 if you choose to let the them move. But I haven't kept count personally, just what I've read!

One (marginal) benefit to telling them to stay if you don't mind waiting is that they are guaranteed to not get the bubble again the next time it comes around.

Does this mean that the specific villager whom was asked to stay wont ask to leave for a long long time now?!

So it will still be a random villager who will ask to leave the next time? Could it even be the one I asked to stay?

who asks to leave is (somewhat) random, with the probability being influenced by your level of friendship (lower level chance but still possible). it is not common but the same villager can ask to leave twice in a row, whether you reset the bubble so it shifts to the next day or whether you say no and wait out the cool down period.

Edit: not sure how accurate but you can calculate (or at least estimate) the percentage chance of different villagers leaving here. https://nookplaza.net/tools?tab=move_out

Yes and yes. It can be time consuming if you want a specific villager to have the bubble, sometimes everyone else but them will have the bubble lol but yes, if you reset it will be a random villager and that includes the possibility of the one you already asked to stay. However, if you have already asked them to stay chances are that the game autosaved? idk but usually the best method is to see who has the bubble, tell them to leave if you don't want them or don't talk to them at all and reset.

This was datamined:

For Thought-Bubble Moveouts:
  • You must have at least 6 villagers for one to ask to move
  • Nobody will ask to move out 5 days after you've told someone "no"
  • After someone has moved out, there's a 15-day cooldown where nobody can ask
  • Villagers are excluded from asking if:
    • their birthday is in the next 7 days;
    • their house is being moved;
    • they were picked the most recent time and told to stay; or
    • they were the most recent villager to move in
The chances of a villager asking to move out increases slightly each day, until one asks to move out. Answering yes or no to this question resets the chance to the default. This boost caps after 30 days.

Friendship affects the chances for a villager to ask to move out, with a villager with a higher friendship having a noticeably lower chance of asking to move compared to villagers with low friendship - a max friendship villager is 1/10 as likely to ask to move out compared to a 0 friendship villager. Having extra residents on the island reduces this effect, unless they are also building up friendship with your villagers.

Relative Weights for Villagers Asking to Move Out
This assumes you are the only person on the island.
FriendshipChance to Move
0 (Minimum)10x
25 (Newly moved in)9x
30 (Can Gift)9x
60 (Favour Level 3)8x
100 (Favour Level 4)6.6x
150 (Favour Level 5)5x
200 (Favour Level 6)3x
255 (Max)1x

So by asking them to stay does the percentage of them leaving typically go down??? Wonder how much.... I'd also like to know more about the friendship levels so I can tell what level I am with my villagers!

If you asked them to stay, they won't be the next one to ask to move.

As for friendship levels, you can refer to this doc to determine which level you are at with your villagers. Unfortunately there's no direct way to know, you just have to guess from your interactions with your villagers.

i don’t think telling them to stay effects the chance of them asking to leave in the future. (They don’t leave unless you say yes so I assume you mean asking). They won't ask next but then I think the chance is the same as before unless your friendship level changes. If you do the reset to move the bubble the next day the same villager can ask twice in a row (because the game doesn’t remember them asking the first time).

You can find more info on friendship levels in a variety of places, but the link I sent does a quick definition
  • Level 2: Can give them gifts
  • Level 3: Can give you nickname & sell you item
  • Level 4: Can give them catchphrase
  • Level 5: Can give them greeting & Get photo
  • Level 6: They can buy/trade items from you

Does the friendship level go down if the villager gets ignored for a while?
According to the doc @NyattaSama sent, no it does not.
I have had villagers from every level of friendship ask to move, so it is not impossible or even too uncommon for villagers at the highest level to ask to move. It yeah, it may take longer. That’s why I tend to use the non-time traveling bubble transferring method, even when I am not particularly trying to move someone out.
