tbt marketplace idea pitch

They should probably do something tougher to prevent posting ACNH threads in the ACNL boards and TBT Marketplace. The staff can give them warnings or infractions for posting ACNH threads outside the ACNH boards, and if the problem still continues, they should suspend them for doing that. But, if they start doing that, people would be discouraged from using this site as the staff would be overwhelmed by the number of offenders.

giving all these people warnings or infractions is much more time-consuming than placing up a banner to warn them beforehand (i assume)
it wouldnt do anything anyway since more new members will take their place

I'm curious if it's possible to send new threads to a queue to be approved by the mods if the member posting it has fewer than 10 or so posts. Having a version of a post-requirement to get past certain walls for the Marketplace doesn't seem like it would be much of a problem. A lot of the time it's new members with single digits post that make the mistake, and no one that new should have that much of a need to use the board anyway

please do something, before I end up going off on these people

I think they’re busy. I sent a proposal through the “Contact the Staff” regarding another issue in shop threads, and I haven’t seen a response. Changing forum software is serious business. I say we give them time until everything is settled.

I can understand that, but forum permissions for certain user groups don't take that much time to set up

or even a simple banner, like the current bumping rules reminder one

Honestly something like just "collectible exchange" would be such a good name change because most people just see "tbt" and "marketplace" and assume it's the website's trading hub and go straight there. That or relocating it to the bottom of the forum so it's not the first thing people see, but that's a lot more work

honestly, relocating is probably the easiest thing. though I'm still not a fan of that one, personally speaking

also, if it got changed to "collectible exchange", watch as people then post thinking it's about the models you can commission in new horizons

Add a notification sound like discord as long as the tab is open. I don't wanna keep looking back here every few minutes to see if someone replied to my thread

They do have a little (1) thing in the title of the tab that could maybe help.

Ah I just had the idea that when you first sign up you are offered a YouTube video on how to use the site. I know most wont watch it but ya know. Or maybe like a gif that shows what places are what? Idk it just popped in my head haha

I like that! or maybe like a reCAPTCHA 'I'm not a robot test', but instead of clicking images you the purposes of threads. Like "which threads are ACNH related?" and you click the banners. I'm really overthinking this aren't I.

honestly i think most of the boards should be renamed, but that's probably not a fight i can win!

people often make the mistake that others care about what they're writing. nobody cares what you write. we're busy, and we're inundated by text and images all day long. even well-intentioned, smart people make mistakes, especially on webpages that are copy-heavy. our brains shut off excess stimulus and try to identify the most useful pieces of info. and honestly, some folks have a harder time processing written words. i get that it's frustrating, but i don't think it's a people problem, it's a design problem.

this mistake will continue to be made, regardless of flashing banners, because we tune them out. a good board name tells you what it is about w/o needing constant explanation.

I don’t know what a proper solution is, but’s it’s driving me insane as well. I still play new leaf occasionally and check that board, and this is such a problem.

Ok so here's my thinking: TBT has shot up in popularity, so the name 'TBT Marketplace' could be a deceiving. That still does not dismiss the fact that people are posting in the COMPLETE wrong place. Also, it angers me that other people comment on the out of place threads? I get that it might be a good deal or whatever, but if you know that that specific thread is in the wrong place, PM them! Sorry I got all mad there, but that's how I think it should be handled.

board descriptions don't take that much time or effort to process, of which something like this should be the minimum amount expected from anyone

plus, I obviously don't have any data back up proof of this, but I feel if banners didn't work to some degree, they'd of probably stopped bothering with them

I think renaming TBT Marketplace to Collectible Exchange or something similar is one of the better suggestion. Other non tbt > collectible trades (ie. Pokemon for TBT or Flight Rising currency for TBT) would fit better in a new section in the general gaming boards. That also would allow trades like pokemon for animal crossing IGB or any other currency, as TBT Marketplace doesn't allow non TBT transactions
