You rub your eyes and exhale one final ‘are we there yet?’ before anticipation sets in. Your gaze sets upon a canopy of greenery as you breathe in the fresh, mountainous air. Others are starting to stand with their backpacks in tow, fiddling for their tickets before disembarking. You look down at your own, stamped with your name, the dates August 8 – 29, 2021, and a map that invites you to participate in a three-week camp – nothing more.
Your turn to exit arrives and you notice another piece of paper poking out from your backpack. It opens to familiar scribbles illustrating a mix of concern and excitement similar to your own:
“When will you be coming back, d-d-dude?”
“Figured you may forget to pack some snacks! Check your back compartment for my favorites, indeedaroo!”
“Please write to us, li'l ears!”
A faint sense of guilt rushes over you for leaving home for so long, but the thrill of a new, mysterious camping adventure was way too much to pass up. Though, it would be fun to show those back home that you're thinking about them during your travels, right?
