A sudden stop.

You rub your eyes and exhale one final ‘are we there yet?’ before anticipation sets in. Your gaze sets upon a canopy of greenery as you breathe in the fresh, mountainous air. Others are starting to stand with their backpacks in tow, fiddling for their tickets before disembarking. You look down at your own, stamped with your name, the dates August 8 – 29, 2021, and a map that invites you to participate in a three-week camp – nothing more.

Your turn to exit arrives and you notice another piece of paper poking out from your backpack. It opens to familiar scribbles illustrating a mix of concern and excitement similar to your own:

“When will you be coming back, d-d-dude?”

“Figured you may forget to pack some snacks! Check your back compartment for my favorites, indeedaroo!”

“Please write to us, li'l ears!”

A faint sense of guilt rushes over you for leaving home for so long, but the thrill of a new, mysterious camping adventure was way too much to pass up. Though, it would be fun to show those back home that you're thinking about them during your travels, right?
How To Participate 📸

You're pleaded by your villagers inspired to create a standard-sized 4x6 (inches) postcard addressed to an Animal Crossing character or TBT forum member and post it within this thread by August 29, 2021, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

Your postcard design must include both sides
You may create your postcard traditionally or digitally and it may be in portrait or landscape orientation.

  • Has a Camp TBT theme in some way
  • A message addressed to an Animal Crossing character or TBT member
  • Your TBT username clearly visible on a physical name card (physical entries) or directly on your entry (digital entries) on all images
  • A fictional mailing address and a hand-drawn or digitally drawn postage stamp by you on the card
If you have a question and are not sure if something would be acceptable, please send me a PM or post your question within this thread prior to posting your entry.

Rules 📸

  • Postcard messages, illustrations, and stamps must be entirely your own work. Please do not use pre-existing renders, stickers, stamps, artwork, screenshots, etc.
  • A reasonable amount of effort should be put into your submission. Those that appear rushed or submitted jokingly will not be accepted
  • Your TBT username MUST be present on a physical name card (physical entries) or directly on your entry (digital entries) on all images
  • Only one postcard (front and back designed) may be submitted per individual - no collaborations
  • Entries are not allowed to be edited once they have been posted
  • Submissions must have a Camp TBT theme in some way
  • Animation and/or 3D (pop-up) papercraft is not allowed
  • Keep all postcards suitable for a PG-13 audience
How to Vote 📸

Cabin favorites will be decided by a community vote. Use either the 'Like' or 'Love' reaction on the post of any entry to vote. Accepted entries will be marked with a green accept reaction, but you do not need to wait for this to appear to vote - you may do so anytime.

While you can react to any entry, favorites will be decided only by votes from members of the same cabin.

Cabin Favorites

The three most-liked entries per cabin will receive 8 additional Campfire Tokens, with the bonus prize of a Rainbow Jellyfish collectible for the entry that receives the most votes per cabin!

FAQ 📸

Q: What is a 4x6 size in pixels?
A:
The dimensions are equivalent to a 2 by 3 ratio e.g.: 900x600 or 1800x1200. or 540x360)

Q: What is a postcard?
A:
Postcards are mailed without the need for an envelope. They traditionally include a greeting accompanied by illustrations and/or photos.

Q: How should I post my card?
A:
For physical entries:
please take two clear photos, one for the front side and one for the back. Using two pieces of paper and having them side by side in one photo is OK too! Your TBT username must be present on a physical name card in all photos.

For digital entries: you may combine both sides of your postcard on one image or include two separate images with your TBT username directly on all submitted image(s)

Q: Can I use screenshots from in-game?
A:
No, please do not use screenshots or other pre-existing photos for the illustrations. You're welcome to take inspiration from them though.

Q: Am I able to use my island representative or include Animal Crossing-related drawings for the illustration(s)?
A:
Given the majority of events within Camp TBT are heavily influenced by Animal Crossing, it's perfectly fine to draw your island rep doing a Camp TBT activity or drawings of in-game fish/bugs.

Q: May I address the postcard to another island representative or TBT member?
A:
Yes, this would be fine.

Q: What's the word limit for the message?
A:
Postcard messages are intended to be 'short and sweet,' so please aim to keep it around 20-50 words. There is no hard word minimum or maximum, just be mindful to include a relevant, thoughtful message and avoid a large paragraph - or paragraphs.

Q: May I use physical objects for/on my postcard?
A:
No. Given the nature of postcards, we are only accepting 'flat' drawn elements.

Enjoy Camp TBT!

For physical entries, is it ok for the stamp to be glued on if our pens might otherwise bleed through our postcard?

I have the utmost respect for artists, but I'm afraid that if I tried this, it would most likely be believed as one of these (despite being not).

I'd encourage you to give it a try if it's something that you think would be fun to do! You don't need to be a certified artist to make a nice postcard. You may even surprise yourself! :)

If you're making progress and are worried about whether it would be accepted, feel free to send me a quick PM.

Thank you! I'll probably take you up on that offer :giggle: Now I just need to figure out how much is 4x6 inches in pixels...

While my postcard is going to be addressed to my whole town, it'll mainly be to my other human character. Is that okay, or should it be to an animal character?

It depends on the resolution you choose to use, but it'd be the equivalent of a 2 by 3 ratio (e.g.: 400x600 pixels, 1200x800 pixels, etc).

You may address it to another island representative. :)

This seems a bit hard since I not very good at making postcards but I'll try to make something. Don't expect to win though

Will edit this with an entry if it's acceptable; I physically am unable to draw. Would taking a photograph of an area near me and editing it into a postcard be allowed? I live by some really pretty woodsy walking paths that remind me a lot of summer camp. ; v;

As I'm out of the country rn, I had to make do with the things I had (that includes an A4 paper, a blue and green pen and a few coloring pencils from 15 years ago) 😬

Completely unrelated to the art, but... I can't help but (healthily) envy people with a neat and nice-looking callygraphy, since mine is a total mess :D

I was focussing so hard on making it look readable, though 🙈😅

Here’s my hand drawn entry. My apologies that it’s not in color, but I think black and white is a nice touch. And I don’t own colored pencils.

I hope it’s not too difficult to read. The dog is Mac, for anyone wondering.
