Stringfish DX

Soo, February is the very last month you can catch a Stringfish until all the way till December. Almost every day of this month I've constantly ran around the river after 4 PM but alas, I have had 0 luck. I haven't even seen a big shadow in the river. Seriously, whats my problem?

Stringfish are reputed to be the rarest fish in the game (I'm sure you know this) but it took me a week or two to get it fished out.
Here is how I did it: Scare away smaller shadows up and down the river. BE CAREFUL NOT TO MAKE RUNNING A HABIT AS RUNNING SCARES FISH! I actually scared the shadows away multiple time and the largest shadow -quite possible the Stringfish- spawned and my running gave it a heart attack.

So- if you have a bit of time on your hands, try that method. I got mine in under an hour doing this. Also caught another one a few days later doing the same thing.

I got very lucky and unintentional Stringfish catch o_o" I wandered around town at around midnight and spotted a huge shadow so I thought "Why the heck not" and caught it. Turns out it was the very rare Stringfish... I'm guessing it's all dependent on luck that you haven't been able to spot one yet.

I get stringfish every 5 mintues. No joke.

Instead of scaring away fish, I find it easier that when you don't find the shadow you want, just save and continue. It will reset the fish shadows in the water.

Really there that Rare!? I run into by coincidence all the when I'm just walking around and I say "oh...a stringfish, I could use 15,000 bells".

I caught a stringfish in December once. It was totally unexpected and I had no idea what it was at the time. Haven't seen one since.

I remember walking by and seeing this huge shadow in the river and I was like "dang, I never see big shadows in the river, let me catch it." I caught it and it was a stringfish...I was so surprised! I thought you could only find them in the sea! xD

I just catch every fish I see, the stringfish was smaller than I expected it to be.

I haven't caught one once! Yet it's the only fish my villagers ask for 8U

They are quite easy to catch if you scare all small shadows away! I have caught a few without "hunting" for one!

I didn't bother trying to catch a stringfish until one of my villagers asked me to catch it for them. It took over an hour of going up and down the river, as well as hitting save and continue, when I finally saw the huge shadow. Did I give it to the villager? No, I ended up donating it to Blathers.

Twice I did run into the stringfish randomly while I was walking across a bridge and caught them to store away in case my villagers asked.

Since then I've gotten 3 that I've sold for bells

Omg, the scaring away trick worked. I caught mine in about 20 minutes. Now I don't have to do any more fishing for the rest of the month. Thank god X3

In opposite, I have trouble catching coelacanth.........

I guess it's really all up to luck. Surprisingly, I've caught several this week without any real effort at all.
