Secret door in Nook's Cranny?

I've noticed recently that to the left of the shop there's a doorway that you can't walk through and doesn't seem to do anything - I don't have the upgraded shop yet though. Wondering if this could be anything for a future update or just designed to look like a staff room or something maybe?? Intrigued...

Possibly, but for right now it is likely just visual decoration to show they have storage area. When they get a 2nd upgrade, the interior will be changed and that area won't even exist.

Im wondering if the boys sleep back there?? There's a little door in the clothing shop too, isn't there? And seeing as they don't have houses on the island..

could be, lots of shops (especially back in the day) had the living quarters above their work space.

might just be a storage room, maybe? the able sisters has one, too, but it’s completely inaccessible since you can’t get past sable aha

I wouldn't go so far as to call it a 'secret' door. I assumed it was either a back area for 'employees only' that served as a storage area or a living area for them. Or it could potentially be something used to access another area of the shop if it ever upgrades further?
