Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a thread in memoriam

I was on the phone with my dad when the news came in and I started to cry a bit. RBG was a role model for me, and the country is a bit less bright for losing her.

May her memory be a blessing.

I watched the RBG documentary on Hulu last night. I always wanted to get around to watching it and I figured now is the perfect time. It was an interesting review of not just RBG's life, but of the great changes the U.S. went through from the mid-1900s through today. (I imagine there were similar changes around the world, but I am most familiar with the changes in the U.S.).

For example, as is shown in the movie and written about in The New York Times, during her first year at Harvard Law School, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the 8 other first year women were invited to dinner and individually asked by the dean, Erwin Griswold, why she felt entitled to be in the class, taking the place of a man.

Can you imagine?

This was 1956, and there were 9 women in a class of over 500.

Sadly yes I can imagine, those were the 50s and women were basically housewives and that's it if you were above 20 for most parts. And yea the situation you described were also common for women succeeding in something etc. I'm glad things have evolved but honestly with conservative rights people being everywhere I'd sadly not be surprised if we went backwards to that again.

It is sad to hear that she passed. I hope that her family is doing alright.

At least this will be a time for a change. The president announced we'll be getting another woman!

I don’t really know much about her, but from what little I’ve heard, she was a lion! I’m sad to hear that she died. RIP

I also did not know much of her, unfortunately I am a bit ignorant in some aspects of our world but from what I've seen and heard, we've lost a wonderful human being and I am sad that she is gone. I hope that more sad things do not come of her passing.

Honestly super devastated by her passing, I thought she'd live forever. She's done so much for the feminist movement and honestly I looked up to her bc she's so bad ass.

I’m personally devastated by her passing and extremely thankful for all that she’s done for women & this country. She has been holding up our country for so long while she was battling cancer (5 times!!!!!) and I hope we move forward in a way that she can fully rest in peace ): I am not very optimistic but am holding onto blind hope that the country can change and honor her legacy

What was so touching to me, is that friends from around the world made beautiful posts and stories about her legacy. My friends in India, France, Scotland, Singapore, and more all wrote about her. It is a testament to her legacy and her achievements, that news of her passing touched the hearts of so many around the world.

I'm not sure I know of many people who could have inspired that kind of response.
