Hmm, I don't personally care much for his character design. All they did was stick some glasses on a smug cat. I remember the first time I saw him too. I actually liked him a little. But now, it's just too much and i'm over it.
I feel the opposite in regard to his design.
I love plain, bland designs. They're the most natural looking ones. Bill is a great example of that. Fang, Megan, Walker, Molly... They're all very simple, and that's their appeal for me.
Raymond on the other hand screams "forced" and "tryhard". It's like he was design to appeal to kpop stans and furries. He also has an "aura" that reminds me of people I don't like in real life. And I really commend the designers because they managed to pull off something that's really difficult: give personality to a character using only their design.

he's not.... that cute he looks like a weird little anime cat like no i'll pass. if people wanna come at me and others for having an opinion over a cat made of pixels we have different issues YIKES

A lot of people like his design, and he's hard to get because he doesn't have an amiibo. His price is definitely inflated, though, but people are clearly willing to buy so sellers are just cashing in.

I love Raymond, tbh. He’s just like one of my best friends, down to being too into math and being a lil too smug. Having him in my town is a little like having my friend on my island! It’s also great because I’ll say what Raymond has been up to to the friend and I sorta ask him what items he thinks Raymond would want!
I also love his little fangs and the shocked look he has when I get him something. Wolfgang and him are my only villagers that don’t fit the cute and silly aesthetic I have with my others and I also really like that, since they stand out a bit.
It’s sorta sad that people scam for him, send hate for him, or in general also seem to blame the people who enjoy him for ruining him? It’s like.... play the game and let others enjoy things that they enjoy, and try not to let others ruin it for you. The fad around him will die down eventually.
And I will say that the anti-Raymond crowd can also be pretty hateful and smug with themselves? I’ve seen a lot of people being passive aggressive over people liking this digital cat. It’s wild.

I think im pretty neutral, I would love to test the waters with him, see what kind of cat he is, love the look! I don't know why he's so hyped, but I could say the same thing about Marshal, got him in ACNL and didn't love him despite the cute look. Would love to give him a spin though, just not for 1000NMT!
Eh, dont really care. It just shows how basic and uninteresting the taste of the majority of players is (in my opinion!). Buuut people are free to like what they want. Won't judge.
Raymond, Marshal, Julian, Tia, etc... They're like the vanilla flavour of Animal Crossing. Everyone (or most people) likes them. While this is completely justified, it also makes them kinda boring. You'll see them in every town and it's going to get stale.

right? this is what i thought too, that's why the hype was somewhat annoying to me. i don't have a problem with him, he just seemed overhyped to no end. i have my reasons for wanting my current dreamies as i've met them before, but for people to spend so much on him just tells me it's based off hype.
he is kinda plain compared to my other cats punchy & tom. like, his coloring is dull, and he's a bit out of place from the rest of my villagers too with his clothes. of course that's changeable, but i think that's what makes him unique as his house also carry over that theme.
I liked him a lot, I don’t often check what villagers exists because I enjoy some randomness, but I just wanted to know what villagers there were. So I saw him and I liked his design, and if I had found him on a mystery island or at the campsite I would have invited him, but I actually like Zell more for that particular personality type. He just fits better somehow?
But yeah, once I saw the hype around raymond, I kind of lost interest.

Like with most of the cats, I think he's cute. However, there are cats that I like way more than him and also smugs that are much more interesting. I do understand that he appeals to people, although I do not get why he's that popular. All in all he's okay in my book, but the hype makes him seem less "special" to me since you see him everywhere you look.

Awww, I'm glad you like him so much!
I don't like him, but I don't come for people who do. This thread isn't about that at all. I was just curious to see what other people thought. Like I say, to each their own and if Raymond is your baby, and you love him go for it! I just personally have no interest in him or see the hype at all.

Oh yeah! I just meant in general. Lots of people who are like “you have no taste” or “you’re not original if you have any popular villagers” are sort of what I mean.
It’s wild to me because in this game.... you’re island is going to be unique regardless! No one has the exact same layout and patterns and you can even make your villagers more unique by giving them items and phrases and all that!
Also, I misspelled his name as Ratmond once so that’s what my friends and I call him now. VwV
