It’s likely they could also have been purchased online. I just checked eBay out of interest and turns out you can get 100 tickets for like £5

Yep. This is correct. Tickets weren't able to be duped because the item had to change form when it is dropped and tickets don't.

yep. I am not one for cheating or duping nor do I believe in it as it ruins my game experience but if tickets were able to be duped, I may have joined the dark side. Lol. Because island hopping is definitely the most fun part of the game for me.

I dunno if it's duping since that was patched but I think it could be people using Homebrew.
I went to a guy's town and he had like 1000+ large stars (which sucks bc the value went down sooo much)
so i'm guessing you can create a crap ton of legit ANYTHING

They sell almost everything, crowns, resources, fish bait, etc. Again to each their own but buying 700 tickets, would take all the gameplay away from me. But everybody plays this game differently.

This is just a theory, but maybe they have two nintendos switch and have a way to complete the achievements really quick, like having certain number of items or trees, they buy the tickets and reset. Again I'm not even sure if that's possible.

I saw a thread a few days ago giving away 10 tickets per visitor, claiming that they had thousands of tickets available. So duping nook tickets was definitely a possibility at one point. Although I wouldn't be surprised if these ppl actually managed to get them thru trades. This thread was the most entertainment I had all day LOL.

Since all but the new villagers have amiibo cards, their value lowered so it might be possible you find someone to trade, coco is also some what popular.
