I was wondering, i don't want to get a second switch 1 but i will get switch 2.
with virtual game cards could i have two different islands on those consoles or would save data transfer with the cartridge?
fyi i own a digital copy.

No one knows the specifics involving NH and the Switch 2 and virtual game cards. From what I can figure out from trying to delete Pokemon Cafe Remix and redownloading the game to try to fix this error I keep getting, any games that you’ve downloaded on your main console is redownloaded in the Virtual Game Card menu by selecting the game’s icon and they really aren’t removed from your console as there is no option to redownload a game in the eShop anymore. I know it isn’t a redownload as I keep getting the same error in Pokemon Cafe Remix and the game was instantly added to my console upon selecting the icon instead of taking a minute or two to download.

Nintendo never said that you’d need to buy another copy of NH for the Switch 2. There is a game transfer option on the Switch for the Switch 2 that works similar to the one we already have. It is just that Nintendo haven’t mentioned how transferring save data for NH will work for the Switch 2.

I wanted to have two islands, beacuse i never would buy a second original switch so i'm kinda cross I SHOULD HAVE NEVER SOLD MY SWITCH LITE

My honest guess is that save data isn't automatically transferred over from console-to-console, as it's still stored either on the Switch's memory or microSD card depending on your preference. This is so that when sharing games, save data isn't accidentally overwritten unless you explicitly transfer everything over yourself. The island transfer tool as of right now is still the expected method to be used when moving an island to a new console unless something changes upon the Switch 2's release.

tl;dr - Two islands with the same copy of ACNH on Switch 1 and Switch 2 should be possible. Not saying it will, but I don't see how it couldn't. Just keep in mind that a single digital version cannot run on two consoles at the same time.

You probably can still do that as long you remember that game sharing via Virtual Game Cards makes said games temporarily unavailable on the original console until it is recalled back to the system.

yeah and after switch two launches, if possible (because first update console a vulnerable) i might "Yarr" the console and save money on games(this is why i'm chaotic neutral XD)

For those curious yet or finding themselves in this thread, your island is saved to your Switch console, not the SD card, and not the game cartridge. This doesn't change with the release of the Switch 2 or invention of virtual cartridge feature. So even if you move virtual cartridge (or even physical) from Switch 1 to Switch 2 or vice version, your Island remains on the device it's currently saved to.

You can transfer your save to the Switch 2 the same way you would transfer it to a new Switch previously. You have the use the New Horizons Island Transfer tool from the E-shop.

When all is said and done, you will have 2 islands. 1 island per Switch.

I was able to transfer everything to my Switch 2 from NH without the tool. All you need to do is select transfer Island when booting up the game on the Switch 2 when you’re asked if you’re moving or starting a new game. I have my Island on my Switch 2 just as I had it in my Switch OLED.
