If Link's games take place in 1500-1600 AD then how is Link in Mario Kart 8 which takes place in the 2000's?

Perhaps time travel. Maybe the AC Villager Boy and Girl and Isabelle are in the future, they can time travel too, but its quite weak.

Perhaps Nintendo will come out with a game to answer that question. Like a Skylander clone game for Amiibo only.
