Oh gosh I'm so sorry! Yeah you could possibly ask nintendo if you had purchased warranty with the console. Unless you didn't, then my only advice would be to let it sit in rice (I'm not joking) might be a bit late now but I hope it gets fixed or working enough for you to backup your island.

Thanks for the help okay I'll get off the game for now and put in rice to be safe! However a minor problem - power button not working so can't turn it off fully! Is sleep mode in rice good enough? Cheers all

I would be careful about charging it until it has a chance to be completely dry inside. I had a phone once that got wet and I made the mistake of charging it before it was dry and it didn’t work properly and wouldn’t hold a good charge after that
