Poll:What age is appropriate for a cell phone?

whenever kids start going to after school activities regularly, which is usually middle school.

if you don't do activities, 13+.

I saw this 2nd grader with a blackberry storm yesterday. I don't think she knew how to use it.

I'd say once you have a stable job then you can have a celly.

But if it were my kids then that's a different story. =P

Well i'd say when the child is smart enough to understand it is not a toy that 1. it's expensive, and 2. you pay for useing it ,So to put an age would be tough it would depend on the child really.

They can have one when they start going out with friends to other places other than their houses. This way, should the child ever fall into an emergency, they'll have a phone to call a family member or even the cops. 13 is usually the age, teens tend to start becoming a bit more independent at this age. Anything below that is really just a waste of money for whomever pays the bill. If they really want to talk to their friends, use the house phone. It'll get you ready on how to dial numbers and such.

That's what I did until my 13th birthday :P

Agreed, cell phones should be given to a teen who is mature
or else they get addicted to texting

I ref soccer games, and at halftime saw an 11/12 year old girl with a blackberry... and I was like... wowww, you're cool o.0

And for my school district, the high school and middle school share buses, so the last couple years I'd see 5th and 6th graders with their own phones texting away on the bus... that's like 11/12 year olds!

I don't think you need a phone until you start driving... so 15/16... high school. In middle school you're either with your parents, at school, or getting dropped off somewhere by your parents, basically... you don't need a phone. Once you start going places a lot by yourself, then you should get one. Also, I don't know why anyone would need internet on their phone until after high school... and for that matter, texting. I didn't get texting until college and I'm glad I didnt't... people text so much during high school classes, and then you don't learn anything, get in trouble, etc... there's nothing that important to talk about during the school day, and then everyone's done w/ school so you can just call them... how someone survives w/o texting in college, I don't know.

Never. Cell phones give cancer over a course of 20 years.
Lots of proof to back that claim up, I bet ;)

/sarcasm
Cell Phones give off the same radio waves as microwaves, and your holding the phone right beside your brain.

and then i store it in my pocket... that's what i'm more worried about!

If you give a kid a phone, they will most likely grow up snotty or impatiant
I can't stand kids like that

lol i thought you meant like public phones, you insert a card or coins and you can call for a certain amount of time

we call them; telefooncellen, so you might see why i got confused xD

well anyway, i think it's 11+, it's important to call when needed ..

I only use my cell phone for emergencies or if my dad calls me or something, and that's what kids should be using cell phones for.

hey, I think I saw on mythbusters about that
it doesn't cuase cancer, its just a urban myth

one of my biggest pet peeves is people who text while out for a meal... not like chillin at a fast food joint or something, but like a nice sit down restaurant... parents obviously did not teach their kids well... and then you look over it and see people in their upper20s doing it at the table next to you. why do you go out to dinner with friends/family/whoever if you're not gonna spend the time with em?
