The Nintendo eShop just took my money.

I was using my debit card to download Pokemon Alpha Sapphire (at midnight) and for whatever reason, it said "This card cannot be used. Please contact your credit card company." I had $80 in that account, so there was not a shortage of funds. After being frustrated, I eventually went out to buy some physical eShop cards and the cashier said that I didn't have enough funds. I checked on my bank through my phone app and it said that $39.99 was processing. I went back onto the eShop and it says the balance is $0.00.

I checked to see if I could download or if the game was downloading, but there's nothing. It's asking me to put $39.99 in funds. I'm absolutely pissed. I've been waiting for this game to come out since it was announced and the Nintendo customer service office won't be open until tomorrow at 6am. This is the first time that I've ever had this issue. Now I have to sit here and stress about my money & be jealous of everyone who is already playing... I'm so upset.

EDIT (11/21): I called both the bank and Nintendo this morning. Neither side is able to fix or cancel the transaction, so I'll have to wait a few days to see if the money is put back in by default. Thanks for all the support, everyone! I needed to vent so badly last night, but I'm sure this will get resolved soon. :)

EDIT (11/25): Still hasn't processed. :(

How about you try contacting them about it, instead of making a thread.

Seems far more productive imo.

Cheeky. I'm already planning on calling them in the morning when they open, but sometimes it's nice to blow off some steam to a community that you enjoy and potentially can get some advice from, you know. :/

not sure what advice you want

**** happens and technology is flawed

it sucks, but being pissed over what seems to be a pretty obvious technical error is just really dumb

now if the error doesn't get resolved, then sure

but for now this thread just looks like really petty *****ing and moaning

yeah, not what you wanted to hear, but I'm still sticking by it because OPINIONS

Nice to see that we get along so nicely. :I

I'm fully aware that s*** happens and that technology is flawed. Telling me that isn't going to change my mood though. I'm guessing that if this happened to you, you'd be a tiny bit irked too, right? If I were here crying and wailing for attention by bumping this thread every five minutes for someone to notice me then yes, that would be petty, but honestly.. I didn't care whether or not anyone even responded to this, but here you are. The only advice that I thought people could possibly give is if they've ever had the same issue happen to them and they could share what they did to fix the problem.

God forbid should I share an experience to a forum community and let out some steam though, my mistake.

it's happened to my cousin!
its best to call the card/bank company especially since it's still processing
then call nintendo about it

like lambdadelta said, its a technical error for sure
but it'll be cool not to put people down tho c:

Thank you for being nice. :)

Well, I called both and they're telling me to wait three days. If it doesn't process by then, I'll have to dispute it through a claim. It's strange because Nintendo and the bank coudn't see the transaction, but the statement is telling me it's processing. Oy. D: The customer service representatives at Nintendo are so sweet though.

No, if I had just $80 in my account, I wouldn't be spending half of it on a single game.

I don't only have $80 to my name. Just in that one account. :p

You have every right to vent about this experience. If people don't want to read things like this, they should take notice of the title and stay away. If anything, you're helping others by letting them know that things like this can happen and to be careful when making purchases with any sort of debit/credit card.

I hope everything works out and that you'll be able to play Pok?mon soon <3

I get that you're upset but being angry and swearing doesn't resolve anything

OP was not swearing until the next poster started to swear at them.
And while you're right that being angry in itself won't fix OP's problems, they have the right to vent which is cathartic.

That is to bad :( im sure nintendo will refund you for the money that you lost. most likely the rush of people to buy Or/AS made there system not work

To LambdaDelta: Hi. My name is Lexie and though this footnote might not matter to you, but we greatly enjoy video games of every sort and we would like to make a collection someday of all our favorite games from various times in our lives. Perhaps $40 is a large amount spent when you only have $80 in a bank account, but money comes and goes, and when you spend a large proportion of your finances on living such as food, rent, misc. necessities, etc. buying a video game you can potentially enjoy breaks up the monotony. It's why any human being chooses to spend his/her money on something they enjoy than constantly living in the stressful reality placed in front of them. I hope this makes sense.

In my opinion as to your "feedback" and the way you word things, people find you quite offensive. Not sure if you realize that or care to know, but being in an ego-centric viewpoint doesn't make for good advice giving. I apologize for being blunt, but it's the truth. It is also my opinion that although some people may make seemingly irritable posts to blow off steam it is not petty because it is far more dangerous to pent up simple irritation which could turn into outbursts of rage at people who are innocent that it becomes petty. Furthermore, it is my opinion that it is warrant to be upset when someone who is excited for the release of a game or movie is dismayed when a technical error occurs that could take up to a few days to correct because the excitement dampers a bit, like receiving a Christmas present on New Year's Eve. The receiving of the gift is still amazing, but the initial suspense and excitement is diminished.

This all being said, I think your advice is either very selfish because it is, in truth, only to satisfy your need to feel of importance because you never got that recognition in your life (which I apologize for you if so), or you simply enjoy making others upset because you have a lot of pent up anger, sadness, loneliness, etc. that you're taking out on people so you do not have to confront your inner flaws. I do not know you so I cannot judge your personality, life, or anything personal like that, but there is nothing wrong with this post and you creating aggression (which you are) is, in my opinion, considered petty. If you're a child doing this, then I consider this to be an act to pretend to be more powerful and knowledgeable like an adult (even if you're 14 and older, it's still in your inner consciousness to want to be of importance like your parent). And if you're an adult, that is a shame on you because that is a terrible flaw in your character you should reevaluate because that is a large blemish on your self-esteem and respect, which I'm sorry to you as well.

I didn't need to respond to this because I even think it is petty of me to be bothered by it, but since you have done this to many users on this site, I feel this response is owed to you. If I have you figured out all wrong, please feel free to PM me. :-)

haha, goodness, this thread! didn't realize it was a crime to vent.

sorry to hear about the money issue, jjarmon. has it been sorted out at all?

And I thought I got screwed today. Did some Christmas shopping online (some international) and one of my orders got flagged for potential fraud. Called up the bank - and rather than any of the international orders, what got flagged was the order of Smash from a UK shop I've ordered from several times before with no issue. They've not said anything yet, but I fear if the payments been declined then I've lost the coupon I used to get money off. :(

Give it a couple of days and your funds should be released. You shouldn't even need to speak to the bank about it - but for ease of mind it can't hurt. :)

Sorry for such a late bump, but thank you for caring and all the advice, everyone. :) I really appreciate it.

Just thought I'd give a quick update, the money hasn't processed yet and I haven't been able to purchase ORAS. What worries me is that both Nintendo and the bank claim they can't do anything about it because they don't see it on their side. If it doesn't get put back in by default tomorrow, my money will be in limbo and I'll have to file a claim to the bank which will take about a month. Hopefully not!

My two cents: get eShop cards instead of using your debit card if you can. It'll save you a lot of frustration. :)
