Opinions on “ugly villagers”?

“Ugly” is definitely a term that does a disservice to villager character design. Everyone has different tastes. I absolutely love the uniquely designs ones, or ones based on a person, trope or aesthetic, typically those characters are mid to unpopular.

I love Diva but I know a lot of people hate her lol. I really like some of the "ugly" villagers because they are usually very unique looking!
I also like Sly, Huck, and Chester

A lot of them are sinfully ugly. Diva, Tabby, Hazel, Jambette to name a few.

But they can't all be cute. Need some ugly to balance it all out.

Except it seems like each of those villagers have people who think they are very cute! So maybe the remarkable thing is that Nintendo created 391 villagers and none of them are objectively ugly! (Obviously I find some ugly personally, but so it goes)

I had Beardo in my new leaf town and a lot of people find him ugly but he had a nice personality and I think he’s still a good villager

Well, I used to have Monty at my ACNL town, I’m pretty sure he’s considered ugly, but his personality and dialogue is nice. I wouldn’t say he’s my dreamie, but if we’re ever in my town I would keep him for a couple of months or so

I don’t think Tabby is ugly she’s precious. A lot of people like Fuchsia, but I don’t really care for her. She’s not ugly, but her colors hurt my eyes.

I don't like to think of any of the villagers as ugly. I used to think all of the Ape villagers were hideous, but as of recent times I have eased up on them, and even started to like them. I may not like the dog villagers, but even I will admit their designs are cute. I just have a phobia of dogs in real life. I will even take an "ugly" villager, over a "handsome" or "good looking" one, just because I feel bad for that villager.

Broffina randomly moved in and I had no idea who she was so i was like ???? and not very happy at first but I'm actually so glad she's on my island!! she's super sweet and sings all the time which is adorable

I don't know why people think Katt is ugly.
She's lovely.

You just never can tell who you'll get attached to honestly.
Yeah I like many players fall into looking for specific themes or esthetics but when it comes down to it two of my all time favorite villagers are Hopper and Rasher because back in gc when crankies were MEAN I managed to become super close to both of them and I've just loved them ever since.

“Ugly” villagers are just as valid as cute ones! I think some people focus too Much on popularity of the villagers and less on what they like. If you like “ugly” ones, great! If you like popular ones, great!

Ugly is a subjective term, but if you pick a villager at random, chances are at least 90% of people will call that villager "ugly". What sets the popular villagers apart from the unpopular ones is that the popular villagers have a simple yet cohesive design. A lot of the features of popular villagers flow together while unpopular villagers often have features that look jarring or out of place. Things like heavy makeup, excessively cartoonish faces, and major color contrasts make villagers unpopular in general. There's nothing wrong with liking these villagers, but a lot of people do not find them aesthetically pleasing.

To be honest, I think most of the villagers are badly designed. There are a few villagers that I don't personally like, but I can definitely see why others like them, and then there are a lot that I know only appeal to a small percentage of people. There's a reason why there are a handful of extremely popular villagers, and it's not because those villagers are so brilliantly designed. The competition is pretty thin. Just because there are some people that really like a villager doesn't mean that villager is a "good" villager if 99% of people hate having that villager on their island.

I will not spend 1 post without reminding yall that sparro, a villager who's considered ugly (mainly for his black circles surrounding his eyes) is actually adorable and my favorite villager. Canberra was my starter sisterly and i love her to pieces.
Basically, I think stuff which is ugly is cute but not by much. Monty still leaves scars on my island.
