Opinion on seasonal holidays coming out in patches?

I dislike the approach, mainly because I'm always going to be a little bit worried that in the future I won't be able to enjoy the game properly in the eventuality that the switch is discontinued and Nintendo moves onto their next console. It's like, even though you can buy the physical game you won't ever be able to experience it in full.

Of course that will be a long time away, but I love to play old retro games and with some of them I can see how the disappearance of support from the developers causes the game to become a kind of ancient ruin.

Honestly, I was surprised they weren't just in the game already.. I would like to think that any patches that give events just make them stay there for good and that they wouldn't remove them, though.

I do personally prefer to play the game with time travel.. so it sucks to know that if I have a long session on the game and end up months ahead, I could potentially miss out on any new events.

I dislike it. The fact that they're not coded into the base game and aren't guaranteed to be available after Nintendo drops the support (which often doesn't last more than a year, as devcycles work in a very restricted timespan) is enough for me to see this model as a potential game breaker. You can still access all the events in ACGC and NL (can't say for sure about WW and CF as I didn't play CF and had a very limited time with WW) and will continue to be able to do so forever. Right now, you can't say the same for NH.

I agree with you. I choose not to support 5g by not getting wifi in my house but now I have to use a Hotspot to get an update and I cant even connect with people for flowers because I have a Hotspot it wont work I need to actually get 5g to be able to play this to it's full extent...... I cant even go to a coffee shop for wifi right now cause theres a stinking pandemic.... this 5g stuff is insane and nintendo is bout it.
It would just be so nice if I could play a video game without having to use wifi

As for the time travelling matter, I agree. A lot of times I'll be too busy on the actual holiday to go on, and I'll just TT back to the holiday so I don't miss out. I'm not big on TTing, never really have been, but on things like my birthday or chirstmas, I don't wanna miss that, so I'll just end up going back a day or two. Maybe it'll be different this year though, depending on how long this pandemic goes on for. I know for a fact I'll be able to go on on my birthday lmao (may 3rd)

I just wish we can at least get the confirmation that they'll do a final patch before ending support for the game. That's really all I want at this point x'D i dont see why they wouldnt, but some actual answers and not just assumptions would be great

I'm generally not happy with the update model, for various reasons that I've stated before and already stated by others.

Personally I dont THINK updates should be delayed. I know people like to complain "it's such an empty base game and yet they had to push the release date back" (which I think is 100% valid criticism) but I think the planning AND active development of the updates was included in that. They probably have at least the first year's worth of updates done. But of course this is 100% guesswork, we truly have no idea what they're doing, but Its the justification I've convinced myself of that would explain the push-back. We'll just have to see how things go

Basically: this game was released at simultaneously the best and worst time

I prefer it this way, as time travelers won't be able to spoil the holiday events ahead of time, and if/when issues come up with one holiday (say, the overly long egg day event with way too many egg spawns) then they can learn from that and adjust accordingly.

Nothing against TTers, but I'd prefer to be experiencing the event without knowing what's involved.

I don't mind as long as I can experience the holidays. The minute the updates become paid is when I get mad.

I don't mind either way. I like having them in the base game so I can TT steadily without ever going backwards, but I also enjoy them this way since it forces me to enjoy the event in real-time with other players. I'm happy both ways.

But I really wish they'd confirm that they're going to do a last perma-holiday update before ending support for the game. I'd be really unhappy if they just stopped doing event updates...

I'm glad they did it, it's obviously to stop TTers from spoiling everything, same with the progression, I'm almost willing to bet that we'll get chunks of the game unlocked via patches every so often to stop TTers.
They did say that they removed TTing from the game, and I bet that's what they meant by it, yeah you can TT but you won't really progress further than the people who play day to day.

That's my opinion, and thoughts.
But ofc we still have yet to see if that is the case, if it's not then the game is way too lacking in content and features, but if it is then that's cool.
