So I read you need to contact nintendo to restore island backups which I've done and need to wait now. However I've also read about pressing - when starting the game which I've done and it takes me to a screen about restoring backups implying I don't need nintendo to do it for me... but when tom nook searches for backup data he can't find any despite me meeting all his mentioned requirements (although nintendo were able to find my online backup earlier) - so can he not find it because nintendo need to 'release' it to me first? Am I doing something wrong? Why is this the hardest to back up game in existence ugh

Getting a little worried that this could actually mean I've somehow wrecked my backup just by starting up the AC game? I'm really hoping it's just because nintendo just need to give me permission to back up and I haven't gone and messed up?

From this page it seems like that option is only if you've had your console repaired by Nintendo since they usually try to keep your save data intact when you send your console in for repair. If there's an issue later (once the restoration is actually complete) you'd probably have to reach back out to Nintendo for assistance but I don't think anyone on here would rly know if there's an issue until then. Please just be patient. ; w ;

Thanks! I interpreted that part as either buy a new one or get the original repaired, rather than the first Switch still functioning but I get that this is all still so new there's uncertainty... thanks for the response, I'll have to try and be patient but impatience reverts me into a small child evidently haha!
