nitpicks with the game?

now, for starters, i love this game. a lot. i love the new features, how much freedom we get, etc. i've dedicated way too much time to it as well. however, i still have a few problems with the game that sour my experience with it.

my main one is the flowers. they're everywhere, and they're so hard to clean up. i miss when you could just run through them, then they'd be gone. sure, that could mean you destroy a valuable flower, but i feel with all the fencing and stuff in this game, it'd be harder to destroy the flowers you want to keep as long as you're careful.

i also don't like how custom designs don't show up as paths on the map. unless there's a way to get them to that i've missed? i already know that putting them over the ingame paths will get them to show up, but that's twice the work and i already hate doing the original work.

and now, i ask you all: what are your nitpicks with the game, or just problems you have with it in general?

If I could narrow it down, it might be how the Y button has so many actions pack into it. It can pluck flowers, cover shovel holes, pick up items, wipe away custom paths, and pick up fences. It's like on one hand, it's easy and universal but I can't tell you how many redundant dumb mistakes I have made because of the Y button.

I have a dense forest area and there is placed items in there along with fences. Picking up a tree branch is the most dangerous task of the day because I picked up my gravestone like 5 times and then destroyed my fence. Like I need to make sure my character is thinking of the tree branch before I commit to the Y button, lol.

I wish there was a locking mechanic for the fences but I can also see that would be so annoying to deal with to just lock and unlock fences. I just die inside when I pick up the wrong thing.

Agreed with all of the points brought up prior. I do like how with the flowers not dying now, you don't have to worry about others so much running through them. My island is covered with the flower takeover though. It would be nice to have it where the main player could run and kill their own flowers, but in multiplayer the flowers are locked to being non-destructible

My main complaint is that there's no crafting in bulk option. Crafting a ton of fish bait at once for instance would be so amazing, or building 200 fence pieces at once. Buying Nook Miles items / NMT's in bulk would be great as well.

Also not knowing who the island host is when you go to an island for a trade where others are present. Would be nice to see a picture of their islander and a name during the flight travel screen.

I never used to really understand what people meant by their flowers "taking over" until I played a bit more of the game... Now they take up 2/3 of my island!!

Apart from that, though... I feel like the UI could be a bit more optimized? I'm not into game development myself, but things like the Dodo Airlines menu not letting you hit 'return' to go back to previous options in case you misclick makes me feel a way sometimes.. I hope I'm not the only one. >.<

I agree with the flowers because I was initially disappointed to learn that you could no longer breed flowers on the beach, but now I'm even more disappointed because I didn't realize that they just straight up won't grow there if you plant seeds! I guess I should have realized that. It's too bad because I used to really like having my flowers on the beach and out of the way while I bred them or figured out what to do with them.

little edit: on the upside, at least when you plant the flowers on the beach directly from seeds they kind of look like beach plants and they won't grow or spread the way weeds do, so that could be useful and cute

Not being able to terraform the shoreline. It's an interesting challenge, but I'd rather have that freedom. I understand editing the beach not being possible, but give us the shoreline. :<

I second the flowers on the beach thing. In NL, I had all my hybrids growing on the beach. Now they just don't grow. While it makes sense for flowers not to grow on sand - it being in a previous game and not in this version is disappointing. At least u can store them there for the time being.

Oh god yea flowers are really annoying this time around, they are hard to clean up and can quickly overtake your island

I think everyone might have a problem with the flowers. I absolutely do! They clutter up my island and you have to sell them to get rid of them, which feels like a waste.
For me, terraforming can be either really satisfying or really annoying. You either mess it up completely and want to start over, or it turn out really nice. It’s almost a game of chance and I hate that, because I can’t seem to get especially good at terraforming.

Flowers, I have way too many flowers overflowing my town that I had to get rid of it.
It was an obsession in the beginning, but its the worst.

The fact that there's hardly any kitchen counters available and I had to compensate in using a bedroom drawer as a counter. While this is mildly inconvenient, what bothers me more is the orientation in how you place items on top of the drawer. When you place two items, there's a huge gap between the two items since they're placed on opposite ends. I need my balance.

I know it's very specific, but it's the little things that bother me.

it's a little weird that you can't use clean-up services to clean up flowers for that reason, but i think it has to do with the fact you can accidentally clean out hybrids, ha. either way. i also have the same issue with flowers and its a little infuriating, but it does make me happy sharing all my spare hybrids with people!!

my other nitpick is that terraforming feels a little ... rough? you don't have the option to place down cliff / water titles en masse, or even path tiles.

Other than what posters in the thread have already said...diagonal placement? I don't mind being locked to a grid but surely we have the technology to make our models face 8 directions rather than 4..

i miss being able to just pick up flowers - it’s a bit of a hassle to have to dig them up especially if your shovel breaks. and on that note, i hate how all the tools break now, even the gold ones;;

Tools breaking and flowers. For the last 10 days on my island, it rained for 8 of those days. I started tossing my basic flowers and started looking for people to buy any hybrids to get rid of them

I actually would just love to sit down or dance. Like, just sit down next to my villagers and have a little coffeebreak with them. There have been haunches of the ability to cook, that would be amazing!

And yes, flowers. I love flowers and nature, but I destroyed so many shovels when terraforming! Then I finally had the layout I wanted and placed them where I liked. Now I dread rainy days because I now it's cleanup time the day after...

But still, I fancy this game for life I think.

Fences are either outside the terraforming path (so you can see grass in-between) or too close (so the terraform path overlaps).

They don't seem to fit as you'd want them to.
