In a lot of Nintendo games, they have references to previous games in the series or to other games. Like they have something in them or do or say something that references to another game, here are some I've found.

This week, I've decided to pick up Paper Mario: TTYD and play it through again and I've noticed some references to past games.

in the letter you find on the bones in the castle, it says "to my son: Kolorado
kolorado.gif
" now remember that in the first Paper Mario game, Kolorado was an explorer, but we'll get back to him later.

Yesterday, while waiting for professor frankly to analyze the data to get to the moon, I decided to re-visit the glitz and get back the belt, took me all of twenty minutes. Then, he still wasn't done, so I solved some troubles, while doing this, I got an email from Zip T. Toad on the train. And I almost couldn't believe it, but in the corner of the window, I saw Jr. Troopa

, it had the wings and the spike on it's head.

Then, when I talked to that green mouse/rat, I read the last chapter of his adventure only, he referenced Kolorado

again. Then Mustafa

and someone else I can't remember.

On a side-note, in the original Animal Crossing game, when Cap'n is singing his song, he mentions Mario.

What are the references or shout-outs you can find in other Nintendo games?

Uhm, the fairly obvious Link in Super Mario RPG... Oh wait, that's an easter egg. I know Mario's face appears often in A Link to the Past...

I don't either, guess I was playing to fast unless he was talking about past Zelda games.

There's tons in Pokeyman.

OOT is filled with them.
Talon and Ingo are cameos of Mario and Luigi.
In the castle garden there are pictures of the Mario gang.
Malon's necklace has bowser on it.
Mario is the most common when it comes to being seen in other games.
In earthbound the runaway five are cameo's of Mario and Luigi.
In link to the past there are pictures of Mario
I can keep going all day.

Mario series reference
There is a Bullet Bill on Fyer's left arm.

The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask reference
The Skull Kid leading you to the Sacred Grove is a reference to the Skull Kid in The Legend Of Zelda: Majora's Mask.

The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time references
The three spirits that watch over Hyrule are a reference to the goddesses in The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time. Their names are similar.

In the house in the Fishing Hole, there are pictures on the wall. The one on the far left is that of the fisherman from The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.

The songs that are played during the game (for example, the hidden skills and when you call for your horse or summon a bird) are the songs that you play in The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time.

Copy and pasted due to laziness.

Well, of course Zelda games have references to other Zelda games. I meant references to other franchises, like the Bullet Bill. =P

Um saying there are zelda references in other zelda games is stupid...
Of cours ethe goddesses are alike, they are the same goddesses that are in OOT.
Next your gonna say Tp references to OOT because the land is called Hyrule.
