New villager question?

So I had nine villagers in my town. I wasn't expecting anyone to move in because from everything I've seen online plus my own experiences, you only get a tenth villager if you invite them in from someone's town or your campsite (which I haven't done).

Is this natural or a glitch???? I'm so confused.

Your tenth villager can also be gotten if you visit or someone visits you.. If they had a villager move recently or the void.
From any wi-fi sadly.

did the villager you get mention that they came from another town? a villager from someone's town can settle down in your town if you have less than 10 villagers through interacting with that player who recently voided a villager or through streetpass.

oh goodness, i didn't know that. someone picked up croque from me the other day, i guess that's where this villager came from.
i haven't spoken to the villager yet though because only their house plot is up at the moment.

Yeah, voided villagers suck. I know someone that has gotten FIVE voided villagers from people. After they PROMISE they haven't voided anyone in at least a week. -____________________________-

I honestly did not know that either until a weeks ago. I also only knew the information that you knew. But now that I know I try to be careful in case my second town ever goes back to 9 villagers.

So to avoid it would you just ask the person if they've voided someone recently? 'Cause honestly I never thought to ask any questions like that but it would suck to keep getting random unwanted villagers. I got lucky with mine tbh because it's not really someone I dislike

Not sure how long they stay in the void, I think forever until you visit someone else's town/get visited by someone else/streetpassed someone? And to avoid getting random move-in, I do suggest asking if they have voided someone recenty, and if you/they aren't sure, tell them to visit someone else's town first, thus clearing their void. You can clear your void by visiting/be visited/getting streetpassed, if I'm correct.

I was trading yesterday with 9 villagers. I kind of want a random villager now for something new. I just have to remember to check as a new character because I do not want a new villager in my paths. lol

Technically no. But it's considered courtesy to do so since it lowers the risk of that villager moving to their town.

Doesn't matter if it was in the last week. You could get a villager that left their town a year ago.
