Mine would have to be various exotic fruits! I never know to expect tasting them... Could be anything from sweet, savory, or just bitter haha.

Maybe frog legs or raw pickled herring.

The frog legs were fantastic and tasted like chicken.

The herring was great as well. This was before I liked most seafood, but I was so excited to try it this famous Dutch way I guess I just enjoyed it so much more.

I tried alligator meat when I was in Florida, USA. I also had snails when I went to a restaurant in Pennsylvania. The alligator meat tasted like chicken and the snails tasted like scallops.

I wouldn't really say it's the most unusual, but since it's not local and I wouldn't be able to get it fresh (or shipped fresh/I wouldn't trust it) I would have to say conch. I actually swam out in the ocean, caught some, and prepared it myself. Mostly for the experience in doing so. It is very chewy, but also pretty good. It can be prepared in many ways or eaten raw. I wouldn't trust myself eating it raw when I caught it straight from the ocean. So I had it breaded/fried (cracked conch) and also conch fritters. Those were really good!

When I visited Yellowstone National Park five years ago I ate a buffalo burger. The main issue I had with it was that it tasted boily. I only ate one bite and didn’t finish it. It was the worst burger I’ve ever tasted by a mile.

I don't consider it super weird but I had cactus tacos once. They were good, from what I recall they tasted kind of like extra juicy peppers?

I love frog legs! This place by my house fries these HUGE ones. So awesome.

We love our gator bites in FL lol.

My strangest food is probably escargot aka snails. They're so good!

i guess crickets? they were pre-packaged and a little too salty for me, but besides that pretty good. if i got them again i would prefer them less seasoned.

i think balut still reigns supreme as the most interesting food i have ever tried

Lychee, potentially! Just a few weeks ago. Pretty different consistency, but I didn't hate it and enjoyed the flavour.

I'm not sure if octopus would be considered unusual but I tried that in Costa Rica on my honeymoon and although tough and chewy, still delicious!

i've had all kinds of sushi bc i was working in a sushi shop for a while. i think the "strangest" thing i've had there was uni, and even then that's not THAT far out there- i guess depends on your standard, bc i dont think it's popular here in the west. i, personally, hated it, but i think it was low quality uni and doesn't actually make a good representative of what it should be. i still wont have it again tho, ive been scarred lol

Would red snapper count? I at least thought it was exotic. Never saw that fish anywhere else.

Unusual...I'm not sure, frog legs or snails are not unusual where I live.
One dish that people outside my family might find unusual is spiced meat pie, with the meat (can be any meat but my grandma used moose and deer) cooked with spices like cinnamon and cloves and served with a scoop of vanilla or maple ice cream on the top. I thought it was something common in the countryside but it seems it was popularized by my grandpa who didn't want to lose time and eat his dinner and dessert at the same time.

Uni...Urchin? I had a friend who just eat them from the river, not even worried about intoxication.
