I expect I won’t play this Mario kart for at least a year or so though, which is… gonna be painful

Ok well it turns out I have access to a switch 2 already My dad got one and he let me try it out. I just did the mushroom cup but travelling between each course was more interesting than I was expecting it to be. The graphics and music are better than I was expecting, I feel like maybe the booster course pass was supposed to lower our expectations for this lol. It’s gonna take a while to get used to the controls but I think that’s a good thing. It seems great so far!

I love love love the cow on the mach bike and the chargin truck. Played a few cups in 2p mode with someone and so far so awesome. Love bowsers castle and sky high sundae.

Hammer item - yay. Feather item - ? Going to take me a while to find ways to use Feather item. Birdie said - use it to jump red shells, etc. Well, I'm not that coordinated.

The tracks seem safer? Easier to navigate, wide tracks.

The drifting and cornering in this game feels so different , almost unresponsive compared to my intense playing of the Wii U one lately.
I guess I'll get used to it, but I don't know if my fingers will, holding the A button down is really aching me oof

The NPCs are definitely more challenging on 150CC this time around, and the drifting is completely different, but I’m sure I’ll get used to both eventually! Right now I’m just going through all the characters trying to get all the outfits while trying to get 3 stars on all Grand Prix and Knockout courses. It’s been fun so far!

I’m one of the few who play with motion controls so I wasn’t sure if they just drastically changed how motion works but sounds like the mechanic of drifting is changed in general. I don’t really consider it any better or worse just very different. Even after playing through each cup once I’m starting to get the hang of it. Still a ways to go though.

I actually play with tilt controls as well! I found that the blooper cart has excellent handling that helps with the changed mechanics of drifting. But agreed, still lots of practicing to go! I went back and tried all the CCs in order, which I think helped with my familiarity of the courses and is now helping me improve with 150CC.

I haven't been a huge Maro Kart player in quite some time but I decided to get the bundle with the switch 2 since it made more financial sense to do it that way. I have played it a few times since I have gotten it and I am really enjoying it and I don't have much to compare it to since I rarely played the Mario Kart games after Mario Kart 64 so to me the controls feel really good and I don't really notice a difference in drift since the N64 controls on a lot of games were kind of wonky at times. I am really enjoying the concept of unlocking characters and costumes throughout your playtime.

I got confused by this too!
You have to be playing as a character who has costumes (like Mario, Peach etc.) and in an area where they will have a costume. Toad, for instance, just got boosted by his snack at Cheep Cheep Falls. For some reason it will occasionally just revert them to their original ensemble.
When you are in free-roam mode and looking at the map, you can see how many character costumes there are for the character you hover over.

Another tip too if you want to quickly grind for outfits is when you find a spot with new food in free roam swap through the characters (with the + button and change character) and keep eating the same food. Note not all characters transform with every food, but you can look up a list to see who transforms with what but it is more fun to just try it out for yourself in my opinion. Then just repeat next time you find new food.

It is crazy, but I definitely enjoy it! I think it's the most fun Mario Kart I've ever played.

What is everyone's favorite tracks so far? My top 5 are Far Away Oasis, Dino Dino Jungle, Acorn Heights, Great ? Block ruins and a tie between Peach Beach and Airship fortress.

Airship fortress is brining back memories from DS with the lava beams etc. Found a sailor costume for the koopa turtle my first costume lol.

Shame the game still persists on giving you coins from item boxes when you've already got maximum coins. Shells etc would be more useful, especially in first place..

I actually LOVE that madness!

I have only played a few online races but it had me laughing, especially when I was in the back of a new race and watching everyone bumping around ahead of me! I definitely laughed when everyone approaches the first round of boxes, and suddenly there are coins flying everywhere as people start attacking!

I also felt like the chaos gave me a slight advantage. I am not very good at Mario Kart, but I was able to swing past people a few times thanks to the madness taking out some top players.

I know the best players will still always find a way to win, but at least in the knockout rounds I have a chance to beat my personal best top finish rank!

You might be able to get people to add their names to a tag list, then ping the list when you are having a session? It works pretty well for the among us sessions we do on weekends.

I finally got nso, and while i may not be able to join a lot of sessions, you could add me to the list.
