Mario Mario Kart World General Discussion

I can’t imagine how much an online membership is going to be. I’ll obviously want one to play Mario Kart World. 🥲

I'm super hyped to be able to play as some of the random misc characters that they showed off in the reveal.

I was kind of expecting MK8D Plus and not much of a formula shakeup but I’m here for it. The “intermission tracks” looking so straight seems pretty lame, but I know if this stuff was cheap and I was getting it I’d have a lot of fun just hopping around with friends on the open map.

Does this actually blow me away? No and it still looks as if it has MK8 gamefeel, which was too sanded-down for me, and a way bigger issue than the structure of the game for me. But they’re definitely doing more than I expected, so I’m cool with it.

Also props they actually added costumes which is so grossly overdue, even if making them individual character slots is dumb and totally bloating how the roster looks, also Kamek should be a character and not an item wth.

I've seen the track to track gameplay where one track connects on to another, but does this game have the traditional 3 lap circuits?

I’ve both heard and seen videos that do include traditional races with 3 laps of a closed loop type course. They were just focusing on the new stuff during the treehouse.

Does anyone know if the switch 8 deluxe suffers from online players injecting items etc and cheating / ruining experience?

Obviously £70 is a lot of money and I'm hoping this certainly isn't going to happen (at least as much) with MKW.

I'm still playing Mk Wii U online with pretendo and you still get cheaters on there, magically getting a star in first place right at the end of the race......

Well, yeah, but it's very rare to find hackers on the Switch due to higher risk of getting IP banned.

It's more common on the Wii U as that console got defunct since 2017, Nintendo couldn't care less on what you do with that, so of course there's gonna be more hackers.

At least Pretendo, just like with Wiimmfi are targeting cheaters and banning them.
Now, with the way players cheat in 8 Deluxe without hacking of any way, the closest I can think of are item trolls, where they stay in last place and disrupt the players by using stars and ramming into the racers, even slowing down and repeatedly hitting them if they want.
Now of course, this was more severe in Mario Kart 7 as stars has a knockback similar to a Bullet Bill, and there was no invincibility frames. And this goes even worse when hackers do it, as it forcibly stun-locks you into the situation until the game kicks you out due to inactivity.
At least they fixed this issue in later games to where you can at least have a chance to escape, but still tho.

(BTW, most players say bagging (Which is to stay in the far back in the beginning of the race against the racer in 1st to chain stronger items while grinding for 10 coins, and holding on to the bad placements and using your strong items strategically on lap 3) is a form of cheating, but in reality, it's more seen as a strategy most pro players do rather than a cheap shot, so it doesn't count. And it only works in 8DX than to other games in the franchise due to how the item distribution in 8DX works.)

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention World! I'm sure all of this will be fixed due to the way you spin out less when getting hit by items, and the shock leaves a less impact after the hitstun.

I think for me the annoying thing is being in first holding a green shell or banana behind them. It's a good tactic as you can't get hit by red shells. And for some reason blue shells are so rare in the Wii U version I find.

I’m hoping for a revamped Vs mode in the Direct. It would be great if you could customize the number of laps per track, and I think it makes sense for this game specifically since the main modes have you driving between tracks for so long. That’s my biggest disappointment with the game so far, but it seems like it will be fun in the moment.

*sees that kart customization is gone*
Welp, time to find a new main!
(I mained Baby Peach in 8DX because I liked sticking her on the Flame Rider with the Bowser Kite and Hot Monster wheels.)

Whew! Now that was a letdown if I've ever seen one.
I'm super duper excited for this game don't get me wrong but what was the point of this direct exactly? I thought 15 minutes was short but if it meant 15 minutes of fresh content I would've been cool with it, 75% of it if not more was stuff we already knew about.

Really excited to have battles back, and free roam now feels like a genshin sorta thing where you gotta collect medallions and complete trials. I love that but... what does it do? Like is it just like "cool you collected this much!" or can you spend what you have? Maybe they don't wanna unveil everything and leave some for players to discover so I guess time'll tell us. Time'll also tell us what the sort of achievement thing is, like the ones we saw on the treehouses free-roam segments ("You drove for 300kms") since they didn't talk about it here either.

As for characters... lol. I was expecting the koopalings and kongs to be back alongside queen bee, king bob-omb and others like poochy.
And we got... literally nothing? Maybe I didn't have my eyes peeled but I don't think I missed anything worthy?
Like I don't care much for Diddy Kong myself but the fact that he's YET AGAIN not available is insane to me, and the koopalings? This smells like a DLC for sure. Or maybe they're available but they're letting us discover them once we have the game in our hands.

Anyways, this direct felt like a commercial targeted towards casual players because trust me I've seen every bit of content there is about this game out there, so maybe I'm not the audience for this, I don't know!
Still very hyped for this beautiful game but what a waste of time this direct was.

Even though it wasn’t much new stuff, I liked what they had to show. They clearly put effort into revamping the series. I’m curious about all the collectibles in the free-roaming mode. I’m guessing at least two of the currencies will be for characters and karts, but I wonder what the third will be.
I thought their tease of rainbow road was interesting, too. I wonder why they’re being so secretive.

The direct was definitely a disappointment, but I'm still looking forward to this game and will be getting it Day 1. Good to see Dry Bones back, but I expected to see a lot more new content in the direct, not just the same things from the Treehouse. Maybe there is still more to discover once the game comes out, like TOTK.

My main concern is the long straightaways seemingly all over the place, but I believe they confirmed in this direct that at least in VS mode, you can choose whether each course is the standard 3 laps or not?

They did! I wish they’d let you customize the number of laps, though. That would make for some crazy possibilities.

I was kinda hoping for a story mode and exclusively unlock race tracks and courses in there. But I get that others would rather have everything available immediately and just do the other modes.

Oh well. I do hope that those free roam missions aren't just "rail grind 5 times" or "reach point B within 30 secs" or something. Would love them to actually have races, chase sequences, and obstacle courses too.

Wow… that direct was uh, something! Completely in agreement with all of you that was quite disappointing. The game is still great, but I sure had some bigger hopes and dreams since they usually have bigger surprises in a dedicated game direct. Just look at the past Animal Crossing ones for an example, this was nothing by comparison.

I’m also concerned that battle mode is getting somewhat sidelined again like in 8. I also really believed they would give some tease for future free DLC/updates given the price tag, like Splatoon and Animal Crossing Directs had… so that feels like a red flag to be silent. Getting the vibe of paid DLC coming soon instead then.

That's what I'm thinking but not until the price hype dies down .

Was expecting a collectors edition or something announced at the end to be honest
