Mafia Mafia Archive (Fall 2020)

Can you stick me in the queue to host my Madness-style game (with my lovely co-host of course), but I'd like to be bumped down the list to prioritise more normal games first, because I think we need a little normality amongst all the experimental setups lately
Bump me aswell

@Biancasbotique ...sis... Mountainous isn't experimental

Updated. I know you said Mountainous before but wasn't so sure if still is :)

Bump...where do you want to be placed?

If anyone thinks it would be beneficial, I'd be willing to run a small game as a sort of 'trial run' of the changes to rule enforcement in The Cellar. At the end of this game I could then provide feedback if necessary. If it were to run then it would need to start this weekend due to other priorities I have later in the month. You have a queue waiting here and that would involve jumping it, so ultimately it is up to you if this is something you feel would be helpful or not.

I don't think you have to necessary host a game to properly provide feedback, you can also join the upcoming game as well. I believe Dad is hosting next so It's up to him really IMO.

I would not be able to give impartial feedback as a participate in a game.

How would that be exactly? I don't see how one's alignment could effect feedback regarding any rule breaks. If anything, I believe you'll be more aware of the thread if you were participating.

It would run the risk of feedback being subjective, whereas the goal would be to provide objective feedback. I also don't feel it would be appropriate for me to be carrying out my role as a moderator (which includes editing/deleting posts) in a game I am also playing.

That makes sense. I assumed the feedback would only be verbal and after the game itself. Anyways, I still think it's up to dad since he's up next. Co-hosting is also an option.

I doubt people will misbehave if you are running a small game but you're welcome to give it a go. You're better off actually...providing more detailed feedback on the games that have already happened and led to our discussion in the general thread?

You're working with a stance that you don't want to name names and have deleted/edited out the 'what not to do' examples that can be learned from but I think you can do it in a way that just vaguely references the types of things not to say while not naming the people or quoting exactly what was said. For example, because I know it's happened across multiple instances, "Don't bring mental and physical illnesses another member has potentially seen family go through (or gone through themselves) in your language during disagreements with others." And you've said it before I think but, "Don't bypass censors to continue cursing at people because it's going to be counted as cursing at others in the application of forum rules."

Given mafia is a game of agreeing and disagreeing on posts and actions of other players in order to solve the game or (if you're mafia) mislead town to solving it the wrong way, it becomes about the way in which people have been reacting to disagreement lately. And at its core, what I think needs to be learned/remembered, is how to disagree with someone as a player and not a person/member of the community and do so in a way that isn't intended to make them feel bad beyond the game. Don't make things personal because of someone's reads/perspective in the game content and don't take things personal if it's just about disagreeing on reads/perspective in the game content.

It's ultimately a matter of maturity and acting mature when you decide to play mafia since you are required to agree and disagree on things and is all about that. Feedback has to more or less provide a way to have said something in a more mature fashion. I'm sure this has already been provided in PM'd warnings from mods though so uh...there also comes a point at which certain people can't handle the game if that's not sticking.

I imagine staff is asking themselves, at the end of the day, "Do we want to keep allowing a game that requires members to be mature enough to be mindful of both sensitivity and oversensitivity if we don't want to tempban/ban people from playing the game, should certain players continually fail at that?"

Sorry for more rambling.

If we are going to provide feedback it will be on people's conscious attempts to follow the rules, rather than criticising them for their past mistakes.

If people don't feel there is a need for a trial run to get used to the changes in rule enforcement then that is absolutely okay! They should be up shortly by the way just waiting for the green light to post. :)

Would you ever come back and play a game? <3

I mean if you have the host itch Tina I don't mind you going ahead of me cause I think you had signed up after me originally (did you revoke it?) and you only have this window of time. Was just saying if you do it's not going be the best feedback if the rule thing is fresh and they won't get comfortable and forget about following them. Maybe also closely follow mine after you run it if you can, feedback-wise.

I'd like to require everyone who joins my game to acknowledge the rule thread upon signups when I do them, by the way. Like...copy and paste a line from it when they say 'in' or whatever, if that's an okay thing to require? @Vrisnem

Also I think generally when mods play a game it's best to have them report it for another mod to handle. Being a mod excluding you from being able to partake would be unfair and that's generally what's done on mafia dedicated forums.

If suddenly in 3.0 you're able to see PMs or something we would just need to trust you wouldn't spoil the game for yourself.

Would be fun to have any of you around as a player!

Not particularly. The game I had considered hosting would've had to have taken place before now. I was missed off the queue list for some reason, but I've had other obligations crop up since so didn't bother to mention it. In this instance just thought that people might rather trial the changes in a game with low stakes and where the host didn't need to worry about their game being shut down prematurely. I'll be following the next game (or next few) regardless. I've followed the majority of games even since I stopped playing on TBT.

It's fine to ask people to do that. Same way as people used to have to post a word to prove they'd read the rules.

I agree regarding that a moderator shouldn't be handling issues in the game and playing at the same time - which is why I think I'll have to hold off on playing until a point where we're confident that games can run smoothly without too much observation/intervention. I've been playing mafia on another forum since I stopped playing here so it would be nice to come back.

i think it was because you voiced wanting to do another themed game and got support but there wasn’t a follow up on when the game would start, so i think we just assumed you weren’t interested anymore
