Maybe because the American ketchup tastes weird? A lot of American tourists say Dutch ketchup tastes weird, but that tastes a lot like tomatoes. So in Holland tomato sauce would be a pretty good name for it. But maybe in America there is more of a difference between them?

Ketchup in the U.S is smooth and super sugary. Tomato sauce tends to be chunky (with bits of tomato in it) and actually tastes like tomato.

In the UK there's no difference between tomato sauce and ketchup... they're simply smooth tomato flavoured sauces that you dip chips in.

Alternatively there is the cooking version of it which you use with spaghetti.

In the UK we mainly use ketchup i think wahhh ...but I thought it was the same thing, just tomato sauce was a posh way of saying it lol x_x Or sometimes we say tomato ketchup

I hate tomatoes, therefore I hate tomato sauce. By that logic I should also hate ketchup but I actually really love ketchup!

I think ketchup is more idk thicker!?! When I hear tomato sauce i think of like runny liquid but ketchup is a bit more like mayonnaise. idk what im saying tbh

I like tomatoes, but hate ketchup. As far as I'm concerned, the taste is completely different and I can't stomach ketchup at all. Tomato sauce is fine, though. It's really good with spaghetti and pasta in general.
