It's kind of disheartening hearing so much criticism of this game lately...

I love this game to death, but sometimes I’ll complain BECAUSE I like the game so much and it want it to be the best thing ever. I’m not really bored of it yet at all.

I think ACNH is the best AC game by far. I didn’t even notice the most of changes people wanted until I came online.

To add on to this, I’m actually happy that there’s updates with new stuff! That way the community and the playerbase can discover new things together instead of TTers and dataminers revealing everything within 2 days of release.

People are much more vocal when it comes to complaints, especially on the internet. They need to vent their frustration. Happy people? They dont need to vent. They have less of an incentive to go out of their way to voice their satisfaction. This is why negtivity on the intenet is usually blown way out of proportion.

I think whats happening is... NH came at a time we really needed it. We really, really needed it. And so there was a flurry of people coming to the game and loving every bit of it. Now that some time has passed, people are finally stepping back and taking a good look at the game, pointing out faults, and thats fair. It's good to critique the things you love in an honest way, looking at the opposite side of the story and trying to see from their perspective.

That being said, I can see people being too harsh. Click bait titles insulting the things close to my heart have never sat with me well either, but at the end of the day I just ignore the videos. Say they arent my cup of tea and YouTube takes em out back for me (usually).

I love ACNH and I still play it.
That being said, I've since moved onto other games and... by god, trading in ACNH feels absolutely awful even when I compare it to other games with any sort of online or multiplayer economy. Taking a step back from ACNH to play other games (MMOs, ARPGs, other RPGs, etc.) has made me absolutely realize how much QOL is missing from ACNH.

So I understand where they're coming from, but you can't necessarily compare AC to other games that fairly. They're built for different things, and especially in the realm of PC gaming, if I'm unhappy with the number of clicks it takes to craft something, I can just set up a macro or an autoclicker (or use the cheap solution, taping my mouse button down)

instead of having to spam A to print NMTs or craft fish bait like im actually going to get rsi if I play ACNH the way I do most games.

I haven't seen any criticism and I am active on the ACNH discord and subreddit.

I really can't fault the game in any aspect. It has entirely lived up to and even exceeded my expectations. I don't really care that they are gradually adding old features. I'm not surprised either, because this is the only way to keep players pleased. I think I prefer them adding these updates as opposed to just giving us everything on a platter, like they did with New Leaf (until they added the welcome amiibo update). I found myself playing New Leaf for a 300-600 hours before burning out and then losing interest completely (to the extent that the welcome amiibo update wasn't enough to reignite my interest in the game).

I know that this won't happen with this game because they're giving us good updates every couple of weeks. So ignore the negative criticism. Long-time AC fans know that what they're doing with the game is for the benefit of keeping us all entertained. The base game already added lots of new things. They really didn't need to add any of this free stuff.

People critisize the things they love right? After so many people have hundreds of hours in any game it's really easy to start to view the game differently and in a more critical light since you've explored so much of it.
I totally agree with you on that. This is the one game I have poured this crazy amount of time into, and I definitely see some chinks in it (mostly how they butchered most of the personalities). I do think overall that it’s an excellent game but I definitely have gripes. HOWEVER, NL is getting off the hook for stuff that NH is getting flack for (I swear, ALL my smugs say I’m cooler than a pack of cucumbers and start our conversations with dancing) because of nostalgia goggles.

I mean, without criticism, nothing could really get better, right?
Take singing, for example. (ofc CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, PEOPLE. NOT BLATANT INSULTS)
Imagine if you sang reallllly off-key. Or you couldn’t ever hit any note the right way. And you thought you could. So you go to a vocal coach. Without criticism, your vocal coach would tell you that she likes your tone (maybe the one “good” thing about your voice. adding quotes to good because I’m not trying to say that singing a little off-key makes you a bad singer. you just need some lessons.) and that you’re good. So, you’d continue to sing off-key forever (because a vocal coach said you’re good, yeah?) and think you’re stellar. Now, imagine this but your vocal coach telling you that you’re a bit off-key, telling you what steps you need to get to the right key, and giving you tips. You’d learn, progress, and eventually have that stellar voice you were aiming for.
Obviously singing and AC are completely different things, but the idea is the same. Nothing can get better without criticism because otherwise it would continue on a loooong path of mediocrity, thinking that it’s all that.
I do think you’re correct. I ALSO think Nintendo IS doing what you’re saying. Just look at how much they fixed visitors in this latest update! It might not be EXACTLY what fans are asking for, but they are taking what we say into account.

Agreed! I don’t know, I understand and support the concept of constructive criticism and voicing your opinions on what should be changed... but I think people have just been pooping on the game recently when I think it’s pretty great. I do agree that the developers might be making the game develop a little slowly to keep the game long lasting, but it’s still fun and doesn’t deserve this much hate u know?

I think it's fair to be critical of the game. I mean, when you think about it. All the past main games for AC have been complete at the time of release. This is the the first major game that isn't, so a lot of veteran players like myself just feel sad that things are missing and we can't enjoy them like we did in the past. yeah, they say they are going to put them in future updates, but we have no clue when that will be. So while we can entertain ourselves for a while, just the fact that there's less in-game stuff to do once you decorated your island, less NPCs to interact with daily, less furniture to collect, and less buildings upgrades to earn, the less motivation people have to play the game.
But I am still enjoying the game! I play it everyday, and even made a second character to give myself something to do. But I think it's important to point out where it has it's faults as well. You can complain about a game and still overall enjoy it.

Simply put I think NH is more like “island designer pro” instead of “making neighbors friends,” which does include a lot of great features but lacks in others that make games like Animal Crossing special.

Once you are fully satisfied with your island, there isn’t a whole lot to do since that’s what most of the game is focused on. On the other hand, if there was more focus on building relationships with villagers, gameplay could potentially be extended for years (just like the old games).

The people who talk like that, aren't truly animal crossing fans then... this game is charming af and why i love it. I also like that they are spreading out content to keep making it interesting over a long time. People want to be butthurt about one thing, they want to seem edgy saying these types of things, and its harder to be interesting overtime and being positive so of course they say these things to keep people captivated. I'm not afraid to move from creator to creator based the content they make, is nothing based on them its just.... I can choose to watch what i want and have a different opinion overtime

nintendo never "promised" to add anything in... there are datemines and speculation, but nintendo has never said we are getting gyroids back, for example. same for the art in museum or redd... nintendo didn't say anything until they released the update info.

comparing this release to past AC title releases is not really fair when the landscape of video games has changed so much. Adding updates was not possible for a gamecube game and very new idea for 3ds, so the switch was the fist time it would be possible. AC isn't truly played through until you do a full year in game, to experience all the holidays. I'm sorry if you ruined it by burning out trying to earn everything to complete it and TT to get to holidays... but that shouldn't ruin it for those taking a different approach to the game. I TT within reason and think TT in any regard is fine. But when so many people TT to "complete" a game that isn't about rewarding completion necessarily, then complain publicly about being bored.... its like well, you only did this to yourself

If the game has flaws, those flaws are going to be called out. It's like if you bought a toaster that isn't hot enough. You're most likely going to be unhappy with it and therefore post a negative review online.

I'm not going to shut up to avoid "hurting Nintendo's feelings." It sucks it's been going like this but it's all Nintendo's fault for selling us an unfinished game.

I’m not going to either. However, I’m also not going to ignore that they have been fixing major problems with the game.

As someone who has been playing this franchise since the beginning (at least in the US) I can definitely say that I have my gripes with the game, but overall we've had worse Animal Crossing games, even in the main series. But people love those games too. It's all about what the game does for you. If you enjoy it, you don't need to justify enjoying it. Try to understand that those of us criticising the game are doing so out of a love for it as well. 🖤

There are a lot of things that annoy me (lack of bulk crafting, some small things that could be fixed) but I just have a feeling Nintendo will fix these things in the future. There will be plenty of updates, and for that I am grateful

3-4 months is about right for burnout or boredom for many players, especially those that often move on to whatever is new. The honeymoon is over. And especially given the circumstances, where people played a lot but are now returning to real life, it's understandable.

But even if you're not burned out, when you have several installments of a game, it's almost impossible to not compare it with previous games of the series. Just because people complain doesn't mean they don't like the game -- I know I'm guilty of being critical at times, but it's more annoyance than hate and a hope that things can be changed. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I think the lack of items was a bit of an oversight or maybe they had to rush and so went with this monthly update plan. Personally I don't mind waiting, the issue is you don't know if or when something will be added, so people will complain about their favorite items being missing or about the lack of sets and choice or things to do. When New Leaf released it had almost everything (except what was added with Welcome Amiibo)... so many people expected everything that was available in New Leaf + some new things, + new monthly updates. Maybe that's just not realistic. But for me it's true the island feels like a very basic experience.... the foundation is great (terraforming is a game changer), but all the extras is what give a game life (villager visits and interactions, customizations of buildings, little random things like tree stump designs/mushrooms, different buildings and shops unlocking, and a feel that your town is growing into something more important.)

Yep, as much as I love ACNH and as much as complaining about something is annoying or upsetting… it’s pretty outdated when it comes to design.

Any popular online game from even like 2004 knocks it out of the park when it comes to QoL, trading, and communication with other players. The loading cutscene is probably the biggest offender. The “Wuh-Oh!” is outright inexcusable for a game released in 2020. Seriously, why does it take 10 minutes to come to another island when I can play with tons of people at once in Minecraft or CoD? It might seem weird for a AC game, but a Runescape or WoW-like trading system would be a breath of fresh air.

When you play for over 100 hours, you start to notice these things. At least it’s not as bad as Pokémon…
