Is there anyone who’s playing NH without a Nintendo Online?

My internet is really bad, so I haven’t played online at all. I can’t stream videos, and most online content doesn’t load for me, so I know I’d never be able to make a solid connection with other players without the game crashing. That’s what happened whenever I tried to play New Leaf and City Folk, so I don’t think New Horizons would be any different unfortunately. So paying for an online membership that I couldn’t use would just be a waste of money. It really sucks, because I’m missing a lot of stuff but for the time being it just is what it is I guess.

I played online for a week with the free trial, but that's been it so far.

I'm thinking about paying for a month's worth of membership just to try to get more stuff in my catalog and to try to buy more real art though. I probably won't do it in the short term. I managed to get a TON of stuff cataloged the week I had my trial.

I have played since launch without a membership with only a free trial code to grab all of the fruits. I feel left out a lot so I try to avoid the online community.
I can't get a decent kitchen set as it all clashes with all of the different colors. Nooks has a terrible selection.

I have the online membership and 2 switches. Early on I used to visit friends and my other island so I could mail things.
Reset Island 2 to get all the fruit and slowed down visiting my other island when I got their voids.
I no longer visit other players islands and have decided to get items on my own. None of my friends send me items. The surfboard same color every other day is annoying. With the wet suits we got all types. Extra players on your island will help with DIY recipes and new items/colors.

You don't need the online membership to get hybrids. No one waters my flowers on my main island and I've got hybrids. Just need on more. This week a player sent fruit to one of my players.

I mean, you can get item variations from balloons and trees, and Redd now. It is up to chance though. I have online but haven't done any actual item trading just yet. I will soon but I think I'll just pay to check out people's Nook's sometimes. It's more fun that way to me. My only pet peeve is that I can't order stuff myself from others' Resident Services machine.

I hope they reimplement Cyrus' customizations eventually for these also. Otherwise it'll feel a bit DLC-ish if people without online can't get specific item variations without getting extremely lucky.

This exactly. The Nook Miles items are heavily clashing without trading. They separated the park clock colors with their matching street lamps amongst the different airport colors and the lighthouse you get along with the other items are also very very random. Imagine getting the yellow lighthouse when you have an orange airport and not being able to replace it because you don’t have online. Also, without online you can’t scan in design codes and paths. That was really mean on Nintendo’s part, I think. Forcing people to pay a monthly subscription by locking out some features.

I agree, honestly. It's true that the subscription itself benefits every game and more on the Switch (I know some people feel very strongly about that) but at the end of the day there's still part of the game's content that's not internally or directly multiplayer locked behind an extra paywall.

Are there other Nintendo games that lock away a lot of things behind a subscription? This is my only Switch game and I don't know much about other games but something about that concept seems wrong to me :/ Like yeah I want to support them and stuff but this just muddied my experience of what I thought would be my favourite game of all time. I don't spend cash lightly and I wish I didn't feel like I was heavily missing out so much with what I bought!

I haven’t used the Online Feature yet because I’m cheap. I’m already subscribed to so many other kinds of services that it’s hard to keep track of. How expensive is it to play online for NH? I’m not sure. I don’t know how trading is in NH compared to NL. I’m also kind of nervous because there are some people, not necessarily on this site who are not sure about the mechanics of the game or are just hackers. 😅

I play few Nintendo games besides Animal Crossing but I Pokémon also requires online for trading. If you don't know anyone locally who plays it you'll miss out there as well. Unlike NH that one's not actually developed by Nintendo. I'm not a fan of how Nintendo have been carrying themselves lately and this is just one of those things.

But don't feel like ACNH sucks now. Some people share their custom designs raw for people to make changes if they want or for those without online to copy it themselves. It's more work but it's something at least. I recommend you try the free online trial at one point if you haven't. Either now if you're that into it or save it for later down the game's life when there's more content.

I have online but don't really do much trading. There are some variations I would like to have but it's not really ruining the game not having them. I just never seem to find the right time to get organised enough for trades.

Yeah, I've found some designs that I can copy, luckily it's not too hard to do. But when we could quickly share patterns on New Leaf and not here without a subscription that's another thing that kind of seems unfair to me. I always thought of Nintendo as being kind and user-friendly but now they're testing me 😂

I was actually going to wait a while and see if they make an update with Reese and Cyrus so I could recolour my own things and not have to worry about trading, but if that never happens I'll probably end up using the free trial and learn how it all works.

I played offline for a while and it was no fun. I hope everybody makes use of their free trial once they have enough items to trade for colors!

The first month, I play offline then I payed for three months online to trade some items with others players.
And wait to see if Nintendo gonna put some new items that need to trade for others colors...

Used my trial to get other fruit, some pocket camp items and color specific items from Nook Miles.

Other than that I am offline and still enjoy the game completely.

If I want a pattern, I make it and I make do with what I got.

My town still looks great.

I played offline for about the first month. I wish there were another way to get more items/complete sets without online trading. I think the online aspect really opens up the possibilities of the game, provided you are part of an online community like here, the Nookazon discord, etc.

I don't have Nintendo Online. I can afford it, but I don't see the value in it yet. Right now the ACNH online experience is basically you can go to someone else's island and trade with them or invite someone to your island and trade with them. I guess you can also tour other people's islands, but I'd rather have Dream Suite for that. I'm disappointed that there were not any major multiplayer features added to ACNH. If anything, the multiplayer experience has been striped down from ACNL by not bringing back island tours / Club Tortimer (yes I know a lot of people on CT were bell beggars and other shady people, but you could occasionally find some people who were fun to hang out with).
