If you were given a chance, how would you make Hippos and Gorilla villagers be appealing for everyone?

i actually really love the hippos! always been favorites of mine. their little teeth,, frend shaped
as for gorillas i feel like their designs are fine, more or less, i just don't like them cause i'm not too fond of any primates (same reason i don't like monkeys much)
their design has a fair amount in common with the eagles, which tend to be some of my favorite villagers too.

For me, the eye shape and eyebrow plays into the cuteness of the design. I personally love Rocco since he was an OG from my New Leaf town and followed me to New Horizons! He doesn't have the slanted, angry eyebrows like Biff or Hippeux. I'd maybe make the nostrils smaller, but honestly, the hippos are fine to me as they are. They aren't totally ugly, not even Harry. I don't mind the big teeth!

As for the gorillas, I love Hans because he's also a New Leaf OG for me, though I guess he's not a gorilla and more a yeti, so he doesn't really count. Maybe they could work on making the head less rounded and adding more fur details. Sticking to one colour or a palette may help too.

I don’t really think it’s possible to make a villager species appealing to everyone. Giving them more neotenous features or “kawaii” food themes, for instance, would make them *less* appealing to many players who are not as into cutesy aesthetics.

Besides, the only permanent solution to finding too many villagers to be “ugly” is to expand your idea of beauty so you can find it in others more easily. That is one lesson I think Animal Crossing tries to teach us but it is an unpopular one, I guess.

Gorillas need a lot of work because real gorillas don't really walk on their hind legs save a few exceptions out there.

And dogs, cats, hamsters, mice, rabbits, horses and whatever else does?

Excuse me while I be completely irrelevant for a moment but I need to get this off my chest. Boone is not a gorilla. He's a mandrill. And mandrills are related to but are not baboons. And neither a mandrill nor a baboon is a gorilla.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I don't think the so-called unpopular villagers are designed to be ugly. I believe they are all designed to be interesting.

Again, what is interesting and visually appealing to a person may appear creepy and ugly to another. So, I don't know, I hesitate to say any of the animal villagers should be redesigned to be so-called "cuter" because that's relative too. Some people like pink, some people don't, some people draw the line at pink gorillas only.
