If you were given a chance, how would you make Hippos and Gorilla villagers be appealing for everyone?

I know I already posted but I've been observing how people feel in this thread and I find it shocking people don't like the hippo teeth! They look like little marshmallows to me. D:​

I know this is a super unpopular opinion but I actually like most of the gorilla villagers.
I currently have Boyd on my island and I didn't expect to like him but he's slowly becoming my favorite cranky.
I don't think certain villagers are meant to be all cute and fuzzy. That's why we have all this variety.
I really hope they bring back Rilla (the hello kitty gorilla) via an update. She's the perfect combo of ugly/cute to me.

Gorillas need a lot of work because real gorillas don't really walk on their hind legs save a few exceptions out there.

I feel like their bodies are fine, but their heads are just off. Not every gorilla has a pointy head. Some have a tall narrow oval skull, some have pointy rounded heads, and others have completely round heads. And I noticed their heads are lacking that abundance of fur real gorillas have. It doesn't feel right.

And I gotta' agree the hippos could easily look cuter with a design change. Hippos can be really cute irl.

Yeah, but MOST animals in this game don't walk on their hind legs irl.
Haven't seen many cats or dogs walking on their hind legs.

I think because of how awful it looks with their mouth? I think I like the teeth but the proportions/ratio mouth to head is kinda...yeah. Hippo teeth aren't THAT gigantic! I'm not hating on them ofc, I just think they just need to be just a teeny bit smaller...

i dont think gorillas irl are "cute" per se... hippos on the other hand are (moomin)! but i keep forgetting that every time i look at harrys.. hairy mustache.
they just seem so creepy, especially the way their eyes are so far apart. but they have potential!!

As some people already said, the gorilla model is fundamentally flawed and needs to be overhauled. It just doesn't work. Hans and Boone are great villager concepts ruined by that awful model, it's really sad

I'm so confused. I get that maybe, like, Al or Hippeaux seem “designed to be ugly” to some people, but........half the gorilla villagers just look like regular gorillas? Like Peewee is just a silverback gorilla. Cesar is a gorilla with a tiny mustache. Hans is literally a cryptid. I love their proportions and I find them distinctive and appealing. Same for Bubbles, Biff, and Rocco. They’re literally just hippos in natural colors, no weird hair or makeup or exaggerated facial features. I think people just hate species that aren’t “cutesy;” people tend to like the species that all have very similar builds and proportions (dogs, cats, deer, frogs, squirrels, birds) and dislike the ones that are very different (cows, mice, gorillas, anteaters, chickens). I for one can’t imagine how to design a hippo that looks cuter than Bubbles AND actually bears some resemblance to a hippopotamus. I love the species’ diversity of design and I’m glad that Nintendo didn’t try to make every villager fall into the same narrow view of what is or isn’t cute.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind that they’re unpopular! It just seems like a lot of players want all villagers to adhere to a certain aesthetic and I think that would kinda kill the game.

I did have a dream that gorilla villagers’ run animation was on all fours in NH, and it was amazing, so I 100% back that idea.

As for gorillas, I think they either need to look more like gorillas or a little less like gorillas. They're in a weird place as they are, where you can tell they're supposed to look like gorillas but the proportions are super funky weird.

I think the hippos would have looked better if they were designed more like baby hippos. Ditch the cartoon teeth and nose holes please.
Idk about the Gorillas though. They're just so hulking and they have this weird action figure shape about them. They just look so awkward.
Boone is the only one I kinda like and he even then he looks like a man wearing a gorilla suit, or a statue that came to life.

I find the hippos mostly have unflattering colours so I would start there. The eyes are hit or miss because of where their placed, but I would reduce nose size and teeth size or get rid of the teeth entirely.

I don't think the gorillas look too bad tbh, but they all suffer from fish lips. Give them a regular mouth and most would be fine

True...I mean, don't get me wrong, they can be whatever they be but I think making them the scapegoat for "bizzare and unwanted" villagers is kinda awful. I mean, look at cows? They're done pretty good. So are some monkeys and frogs. Why can't Gorillas and Hippos be too? They deserve to, you know. have a representative that can help them more loved and not a target of net batting

a lot of the "ugly" villagers can easily be fixed by giving them more appealing eyes or colors! i had Al and not only were his eye SUPER off-putting but his weird green undertones type tan was just bad
