I didn’t think my bug nemesis this month would be the cicada shell

Idk what bugs I need to catch still since I caught a lot of them but last month the Goliath beetle was kicking my butt. Even if I’m slowly sneaking up on it, it would still fly away. Frustrating, in short I never caught it.
it funny i still run into them time to time. The Shell and golden and Horn hercules and Giraffe stag are a pain. The golden and Hercules i found two so far for the Model. The Shell one time for the musion and need 3 more. But the giraffe need a Late night to find and need two more but a pain too.

There are a few I cant find the cicada shell is one of them. The other ones are horned Hercules, golden stag and giraffe stag. They all seem to be playing hide and seek.
Same here i had to clear out a Mysery Island and only hunt them on plam tree and keep playing the waiting and shooting the other bugs like Butterflys and so on away. When i get them i look for the shell and so on on a other day and a other mystery island

Mine is the walking stick. I kept missing its hours of availability.
go to a mystery island at 6 pm sharp and clear out everything. Then leave only tree or plam tree and go left and right side of the island and keep scareing the bugs you do not need. I Only leave one group of trees in a line so i can try to summon the bugs i am after. Plam trees seem to work as it easy to spot them then dark color trees . But remeber to leave one group of trees Like Plam or Oak trees not both as your not fighting both spawn rates. If one day you going after like walking stick and do not think on the other bugs. if you catch one at your not after on at day then it a good little bonuses.

The cicada shell has a rarity of three stars, so it's not all that common. The rare bugs have a rarity of four stars.

I guess I got lucky with this one? My bug nemesis is the walking stick, I had to set my alarm at 4am to get it and it took like 3 hours of sneaking around since it's super easy to scare it away.

I got it yesterday and I was very surprised that there was an achievement for catching this thing specifically. Makes me wonder if it's actually supposed to be rare because it obviously took no effort to get it once it showed up...
I kinda feel like that it's meant to be the bug equivalent of the trash fishing achievement since it's essentially just trash

Where do you find that? Is it just on a tree?

Scarab beetle and walking stick. I think my only chance of catching a scarab beetle is if I stay up late on the weekend. 11 pm - 8 am just doesn't work for me, especially since it's supposedly a rare encounter. I have never seen a walking stick, either, as I'm usually finishing up work around the time that it shows up and then I have things to do that end up going past 7 pm.

Okay so after I caught the walking stick I looked up its hours of availability in the critter encyclopedia.

The hours suck. There's two veeery small windows of time that it can actually be caught, I caught mine around sunset time.

I still have yet to catch a Hercules, scarab and I feel like another. I've caught a Goliath a few times, I caught my first Giraffe (mistaking it for a cyclomantus), two goldens and one elephant. I want to catch 2 Hercules' thou, the Hercules is my favourite beetle.

Wait for the cicada Shell is it similar to a cicada on a tree or do you need to shake it? I can’t find one for the life of me

They're like the other cicadas; they're found on the trunks of trees. You don't want to go around shaking trees since that will shake the Cicada Shell off the tree and make them disappear.

I don't know if I've already seen them. When I walk slowly and searching I can't find them... but when I'm running to get somewhere it feels like 3000 bugs are flying off the trees :')

Yes, I caught mine the other day because I randomly walked by a tree and saw something that looked add and caught it. It was hard finding the shell, but seeing there was an achievement surprised me to.

Just found my first one and got it. :D

After that you know why they are maybe harder to get :P

I managed to update my game a day ago after I got back from vacation, and I got it this morning while watering my flowers. Guess I got lucky.

Got my first one last week on a mystery island at night. Got my second one a couple days ago on my island early in the morning. Saw a third this morning on a tree that I apparently should have terraformed some more space around before I tried to catch the shell.

Very rare so far. Cicada shell and the scarab beetle seem to be the white whales of the current bug crop.

The tick is to stop moving when they spot you. You know they've spotted you when they freeze up.

Strangely the walking stick. Only found like two or three so far and I scared all of them away by accident. I've caught everything else though, bugs. fish and sea creatures :0

Last night, I ended up on money rock island. I cut down the fruit trees and left the palms. I got four giant stags and two scarabs. You could probably bring your own palms to any island, cut down regular trees/trample flowers and get good spawns.

I tried to curate an island to hunt the new bugs last week (it might have been the one I caught the cicada shell on, I can't remember) but it wasn't an optimal island layout and it wasn't late enough for the scarab to start spawning. Got what I needed of the other rare beetles though.

might just be my lack of palm trees but the blue weevil beetle just reFUSES to spawn on my island. I need to look more into which rare bugs I'm missing though...

I finally got my Scarab Beetle today - only had to farm for about an hour before I lucked out. If I hadn't found it, probably would've taken me another couple days to find it.

It's not a bug that I'm struggling with, it's a fish - the Ranchu Goldfish. Used a whole stack of bait trying to catch it earlier, no dice. :(
