I despise nmt

Honestly I like using them as currency to buy things because I never go on tours anymore.

I like it as an alternate form of currency, similar to a credit card where it's available as a convenience and is generally seen as valuable or sufficient enough as a tip for visiting an island or facilitating a simple transaction. It also removes a lot of ambiguity at least for me personally. 10k bag of bells too thin of a tip for a Celeste/meteor shower visit? 1 NMT should do the job.

It's when you go anywhere above double digit tickets that I zone out.

I personally only give them away as tips but I wouldn’t use them as currency imo. They basically become useless once you find all your dreamies unless you’re using them to gather resources. Also, I feel like NMTs are only good for if you’re not looking for a single specific villager because the probability for certain villagers is skewed and it would basically be a waste of tickets trying to find them.

I don't mind them actually, but I don't really do mystery island tours, buy villagers, or have that much interest in the rare stuff (Redd's art/Celeste/Gulliver items). I prefer doing 1:1 trades for DIY/items, but it's nice to have them when there's something I want to buy outright.

This is even more annoying when you consider a good chunk of them are probably hacked in by people using custom Switch launchers and cheat loaders for the game.

Kind of reminds me of furniture and stuff crashing in New Leaf because cheat cartridges basically allowed you to get any item at all in the game in any quantity.
That irks me because datamining showed the random island was generated when the ticket was printed, leading me to believe that info is stored on each ticket. Which can be screwed up while hacking, leading me not to want to take tickets for anything.

Just my opinion, but I think NMTs are great to have around as a payment method. The whole thing with buying/selling turnips makes to too easy to obtain bells, especially when people are doing it with their friends (eg. Friend #1 has high turnip prices and Friend #2 TTs to Sunday to buy turnips, then they just keeping going back-and-fourth that till they have over 50 million bells.) Nothing wrong with people doing this, but again, in that sense anyone can go from having 0 bells to over 50 million bells in one day.

I think if NMTs weren't used as currency, and bells were the only available currency for trading, then you would see a hike in prices for items/villagers. Maybe to the point where an item now that would normally sell for 99K bells, would shoot up to 900K bells. Just a thought, I don't really know what the conversion would actually be if NMTs weren't used for trading.

Interesting, I hadn't heard about that until now - but yeah, if that's true, it's definitely something to be weary of I suppose. It's impossible to know how many NMT going around are actually illegitimately hacked in or not. I can only assume that if the island is determined at print, that the hacked in tickets are "printed" (as far as the game is concerned - but not visibly to the player) and given to the player.

It doesn’t bother me. I just don’t really get the hype of NMT for myself but I get why people might want them. It can be fun to mystery island hop and it can also be nice to use them to obtain other things from other users they may want.

I like to hoard mine, I just don't feel like spending them... I hate that they have become some form of currency, because I can't legit buy anything without someone wanting NMT's for their items (which I won't do).

i don't exactly hate NMTs, but the fact that people are asking for or selling them for huge amounts of bells is pretty absurd

Way more convenient to use as a currency than bells lmao. Especially since I often merch items worth more than 4m bells. It's a huge hassle to trade more than a full inventory of bells but easy to drop/pick up like 80 NMT.
