How rare is tuna?

I am trying to catch a tuna to finish my criterpedia fish section. So I visited a SH island twice, first time I used 30 baits and second time 20 baits, but no tuna showed up at the pier. How rare is this thing? I kind of hesitate to use more baits for it because I want to save them for the fishing tournament. Just wondering how many fish baits I need to prepare to catch it.

Didn't seem too difficult for me, honestly. It's been a while since I've caught it, however. The Char however, I've caught two since release, and used north of 400 bait in my attempts.

Had a pretty tough time to get just the one I could donate to the museum before it went out of season... it's gonna be hell to get three more of them to make the model :')

It'll be one of those fish where it'll be the bane of your existence or it'll be a cinch.

It's the same with the marlin, mahi mahi, trevally and whatever else spawns near the dock, lol.

I got two marlins during the first trip! Just the one I really want refused to appear.

Well base on where you find it. I Found one at the mouth of the river and a other a bit more inward in the island i think. If i remeber right.

I think tuna only appears at pier...

Yes, Tuna is only at the pier. I believe it's rare-ultra rare. Someone told me that it spawns more often when you're playing with other users (I can't remember if he specified online play, local play, multiplayer, or all three - but I was at this dude's island trying to catch one several months ago because I'd had no luck on my island and I caught one after only a few fishbait).
