Been looking for a scorpion the past two nights but have yet to see one, while tarantulas I would see at least 2 or 3 a night.

Are they just really rare or am I just having bad luck so far?

The spawn rate for rare insects/fish were lowered with the April 23rd update

I had one spawn last night near my house. Did NOT expect it.... the way it scared me, goodness... (and yes, it attacked me)
It's supposed to be a rarer spawn so I was surprised I came across one yesterday, hopefully, you can get one soon!

Saw two last night, caught two last night. Haven't tried again tonight, but sure it'll be much the same. I just need to find the nibblefish, and I've got all the "May" fish and bugs.

That's why I never carry my net after 7pm... If you don't have the net out they won't attack you. Heck you can almost walk up and pet them as long as you don't have the net out...

When you see one, get in a good position then pull net out...

Yesterday, my first nmt used after 7 pm took me to scorpion island.
I got a bag full!

I mean I got one 7 minutes after when they were available to catch, so not extremely rare

I have already seen four or five. I never saw a ton of tarantulas on my island so I mainly saw them if I was on/made a tarantula island. Scorpions I’ve had more “luck” so far with. The first one I saw last night spawned almost on my doorstep. When I swung my net it hit one of the blossom viewing lanterns flanking my door. At least I didn’t have far to go once I got bit. 😂

I decided to give it a try tonight as today has been my lucky day.. Caught a Golden Trout earlier and have gotten 2 gold nuggets from balloons.. Took 10 NMT and headed out.

Ticket 2 I hit the small bamboo Island! Good enough and a nice alternative to the real Tarantula / Scorpion Island.. Took about 20 minutes to clear the Island then I was catching about 1 a minute after that. So about 1 hour later, this...

I didn't have my net out, I've learned my lesson before LOL. My home is in a closed-off area so as I was about to go down the incline, I saw it and it caught me off guard. I got out my net to catch it but I was too slow and didn't position my character properly 😔

Seem about as rare as a tarantula, so more uncommon than rare.

Weird... I've never been stung unless my net is out.. Tonight I caught 38 of them and was within inches of them several times. They just scurry on like I was not even there until I take the net out....

Edit: Okay now I read again and you did take net out.. My bad..

i’ve only seen one so far and the rarer bugs had their spawn rate nerfed with the nature day update so it seems it’ll be more difficult to find than the tarantula originally was ;u;

On your island, there's about a 2% chance of one spawning (with current rates) on any tile than can spawn it assuming no other insect spawns in the immediate vicinity. It sounds low, but it's not that rare given how many tiles are possible assuming your ground isn't cluttered with items.

All in all, you have about a 1/50 chance of encountering one on your island at any given time. Keep running to different acres or enter/exit buildings and you're bound to find one.

If you find a Tarantula/Scorpion island, it's much higher. If you find an island that can be converted into a Tarantula/Scorpion island, that'll increase your rate too as there will be a limited number of bugs that can spawn.

I finally found and caught one! I didn’t expect them to be so big haha, took a lot of searching and reentering my museum though to get the spawn.

thanks for the replies and help everyone :)

Huh, I haven't seen one at all since the game came out. Thought maybe this wasn't the correct season.

I saw a couple on May 1st and caught one, then a second one last night at the plaza and caught that one too.
