Yeeah, nah. I will break their hearts and eat them right there. I don't feel bad, lol.

well, i wouldn't expect a resident pirate like yourself to bend to anyone's will :devilish:

In general I don’t bend over too much, I’ll buy things to help them and do trades, however if it’s a request for a bug I cheer them on because that response feels more native to my personality. ^^;
I’ll do anything for Sprocket, Raymond or Chadder though. Except the bug request since again, I like cheering them on more aha.

i find i'm a lot more biased with lobo, my one villager who's probably never going to leave, so i definitely understand the feeling of being more prone to interacting or doing things for certain NPCs. i always try to catch them their bug or fish requests, especially because i just love their comments about them later on in dialogue when you're in their home.

It really depends on my mood and what item they want. In the case listed by the OP, that would’ve been a heavy nope. If it’s something random I got from a balloon or another villager that I don’t really need, I might be more willing to hand it over.

i'm heavily regretting the cello trade, believe me 😤 at least she was happy. i've learned my lesson for next time, most definitely.

When I first started playing, I never said "no" to my villagers. I ended up paying for this when I realized that they could display whatever critter, furniture, or clothing that they received from you.

that's generally how it began for me, as well. i didn't play with any access to online forums or knowledge, really, and just went into the fray of things. so tank's got a sleeping bag (being one of my first villagers) and a bed that i made him, thinking he'd replace the sleeping bag with the bed. i try to stick to the theme of their personality and home interiors when i'm gifting them things, now. unless, like i've said before, i'm planning on possibly gifting them eventually. i know how annoying it would be to have a bunch of random stuff cluttering one of your favourite villager homes :c

man i just let them do whatever, except for catchphrases. everyone always wants a new catchphrase and i dont want them to get one and spread it so i just dont accept, however i may just start accepting their requests soon.

so far, letting my villagers take and get whatever they want has led to 1 very interesting scenario. Penelope and Octavian both have had fleas on my island, with Penelope being the very first and Octavian being the second. well, Penelope had gotten fleas again and i caught them, then i went to Octavian's house to give him his daily coconut. after i do that, i had a normal conversation with him, and he wanted to buy Penelope's flea. i nearly died on the spot but i had to give it to this dude. anyway i just want to give a PSA that i think setting out trash & rotten turnips on ur island causes ur villagers to get fleas more often. i dont rly have any numerical based evidence, but when i was trying to catch ants and flies for the museum and their models, a villager had a flea like every other day, but since picking up and selling those items, none of them have had fleas and it's been about a week or so. yea.

anyway i imagine when i actually get some dreamies i'll probably be more precise about what i allow them to have, or i'll just gift them clothes until they get out of an ill-fitting outfit that so-and-so gifted them.

this exact thing happened to me, with the flea. octavian seems to be extremely interested in buying fleas that were previously on other villagers for some reason 😂

it's extremely interesting to see the range of how people deal with their villagers. i hope i can learn to be a little bit more like some of you, and start saying no to them. especially for the really expensive requests, my gosh.

I guess it depends. I don't mind giving villagers items because the results can be pretty funny! There are some items I don't give them because they'll just look really bad or because I'm saving them (for example, hard to catch bugs that I'm saving for a model). The prices don't really bother me since I've gifted them expensive furniture anyway.

When my villagers ask for a bug or a fish, I just say no. But other than that, I always do delivery favors, give them medicine, do treasure hunts, and buy whatever they want to sell me.

Generally I refuse task if I'm doing something, they want me to deliver something to someone, or if they want something of mine that I know will look stupid on them. I'm really heartless out here

i love my villagers so, so much but when it comes to them wanting a rare fish or bug, something that’s expensive or that i think wouldn’t look nice on them or in their interior or buying something from my pockets, i always say no but anything else is fair game. i genuinely want my villagers to be happy but not if what they’re asking for is difficult or hugely inconveniencing :’)

as some of you may know, in order to buy a cello in NH, you need to save up some bells. for the first time since i've played the game, my nook's cranny finally was selling a white cello. i had just managed to get the 130, 000 bells i needed from selling things and i scooped it right up immediately without a second thought. only.. as soon as i left my nook's cranny, chrissy popped up. with that bubble above her head. and i stupidly talked to her.

chrissy wanted to trade me for my cello. with a diner apron. any normal person would have, and probably should have, immediately told her no deal and kept the much sought-after cello. me, on the other hand? i bend over backwards for my villagers, and i want to make them happy by any means necessary.

I bought a cello today, and someone wanted to buy it!

I said no. Too expensive.

I do what I want. Sometimes that involves helping them, but if they want something I might use in the future, they better be one of my favorite villagers.

i try to cater to my villagers as much as possible, if it makes them happy then it makes me happy! but there is one exception-- selling or giving them any type of bug and/or fish! i hate seeing them being displayed in their homes so that will usually always be a no from me, but i may or may not have given in to Merry a few times here and there cause that face is just too adorable so now i get the pleasure of staring at her double stacked sea bass in the corner every time i visit her T_T

A villager's wish is my command, lol.

Except nicknames. I made a mistake on my character's name, but didn't want to restart to fix it. So instead I've fixed it via nickname, and every time a villager comes up with a nickname I refuse it and type in the preferred name when they ask me to. So that gradually, I can get the villagers to all use the nickname instead of the horrible mistake that is my character's real name.

Most of my villagers are pretty unoriginal at this point. Though, I do try to keep some of my villagers houses near original. Which is Skye and Wolfgang.

I do whatever task/errand my villagers ask me to do. I don't really mind if they redecorate their house/wear something that might not look too good. I just let them live out their simulated lives, while I live out mine.

Afterall we might be in a simulated ourselves, and why should we judge what a villager in a video game decides to wear XD

I'm a people-pleaser in real life so naturally I would be the same in a game that rewards positivity. My motto regarding the interior design of my villagers' houses is that if the missing item can be bought again, then don't worry about it. Otherwise, just focus on making their yards pop. THAT they cannot control.

It's the same with clothes. In another thread, I wrote about Rowan not wearing any sweaters that I'd give him, so I gave up and just let him wear whatever he wants.

I have zero gift policy in my island!

And I don't want them to give me silly nicknames! :cautious:

For me it depends on who asks and what they ask for! I tend to say no when they ask for fish/bugs because it replaces items in their house. If they ask for a piece of clothing, as long as it's not wild or doesn't match them I'll usually say yes. I usually don't mind what they give in return, most often I'll sell it or give it away because it's not something I'm interested in. In general I prefer to give gifts that I pick out rather than catering to their random requests. There's nothing worse than giving in and having to look at a sea bass tank in their house forevermore. So I voted for depends!

I allowed them to call me highway so I’d so I’d say I do for the most part.

that was my very first nickname, i think! 🖤

i'm so glad that most of you have little tidbits of differences here and there that i can read about. it honestly does make me feel a little bit better about bending over backwards so often; and i think i'm slowly learning how to possibly say no to those ridiculous requests :devilish:
