Resetting drives me absolutely mad.... i didnt know what i was getting myself into like many others

honestly, i wasn’t picky about my map layout at all besides wanting a specific location for my rs + airport - the main thing i wanted was peaches as my native fruit, which i got on my 6th or 7th reset, so it maybe took me about 20-30 mins aha.
looking back, i wish that i had been a bit more picky with my map but then again, i was still fairly in the dark about terraforming and wasn’t sure of everything that i wanted or that i’d be able to do so i wasn’t even sure what to look for besides the locations of the permanent buildings and what native fruit i had lmaoo

I did not reset at all; I just chose one of the first four maps. Really happy with my town and I am even glad my resident services is very close to my airport (it is alligned though, so that helps). The only thing I did not want is two south facing rivers, and that was easy to avoid within the first try.
I have really bad experiences with resetting (resetted my first WW town because I didn't like the name.. never got over that regret since other towns never could live up to the first in my mind), so that's why I am not going to do it, never again. I will just make the layout I have got work.

That's some really good luck right there!My first island I reset until I got a blue airport and peaches. Those were the only two things I knew I could influence by resetting. It took maybe an hour or two. Well I ended up scrapping that island, I had no connection to it despite it being my first. Since I had tossed out 300+ hrs of progress I decided to go hard and find that new island with everything I wanted.
It took many resets, I'm talking hours. I wanted an orange airport with hyacinths, apples, decent sized pier, wide area of land that sticks out into the ocean near the resident services for a lighthouse and a resident services (preferably to far left or right) that wasn't close to the airport. A few hours in I was starting to think about settling. There was no way I would find everything I wanted, right? Then there it was... my perfect island. I recall screaming when I realized it had everything I was looking for
It made it all worth it!
I'm sure it wasn't THAT bad...
When I decided to reset, I put a bunch of restrictions for what I wanted my island to be/have, making it VERY hard to get the perfect island.
What I was looking for at the time;
...Then I decided to reset again when I realized the inside of the Airport doesn't change colors and is always blue. It bugged me to no end to see a green airport and go inside and it's all blue lol.
Took like a whole other day to find the same requirements but with a blue airport and ended up getting Apples and Roses as my primaries, which was fine. It was pretty much worth it at the end of the day, because I love my (currently wip) entrance.
After finding the perfect island, it got pretty fun, starting from the beginning (and not time traveling) was more enjoyable than I thought it was gonna be.
What I was looking for at the time;
- Long dock.
- Residential Services in the 4th row, preferably very close to the airport
- Pears as Main fruit
- Green Airport
- Double South Rivers
...Then I decided to reset again when I realized the inside of the Airport doesn't change colors and is always blue. It bugged me to no end to see a green airport and go inside and it's all blue lol.
Took like a whole other day to find the same requirements but with a blue airport and ended up getting Apples and Roses as my primaries, which was fine. It was pretty much worth it at the end of the day, because I love my (currently wip) entrance.

Very important advice if youre going to reset make sure you study all the map possibilities because if youre looking for somthing thats not possible you could be searching forever and ever..... like a nw beach with a nw river outlet... not possible and vice versa

I didn't reset at all just went with the first map I got! Tbh I think I would have if I had more info (I was going in blind haha) as I'm not too fond of the green airport and the fact that the resident services is a bit too close too the airport
I started a week late and thought I had lots of catching up to do so I didn’t reset and just chose a map from the first four that was presented.
Don’t really have much complaints or regrets about my current island and I think I’ve already invested way too much time to think about resetting at this point.

I did in fact spent a few hours into resetting at Day One, as I really wanted a certain map back then. In general, I do spend some hours into resetting if I don't have luck and getting a map right away with the native fruit and airport color I'm looking for.
I map reset for about 2-hours on launch day. Back then I didn't realise I could also be looking out for things like peninsula size, rocks, native flower, secret beach location, etc. I just reset for an orange airport, cherries, RS close to airport, and any map that wasn't two south facing rivers. In the end I got stuck with a tiny peninsula, roses (which I hate), and a secret beach in an unideal location. Thankfully I was able to work around these so I'm fine with it now and of course I'm still happy with my orange airport 
The only thing I hate is my RS location. I realised later on how difficult it would be landscaping that small space. I'm still not 100% happy with what I've done with it.

I didn't do much research into maps ahead of the release date, the only thing I considered was wanting RS to be kind of close/in line with the airport - my logic back then was convenience but I'm not entirely sure what I was thinking? but anyway I chose one of the first 4 because I knew terraforming would probably solve any problems, which is crazy to think about now considering the hours of my life I've spent resetting NL towns!! I'm pretty happy with my map now and I honestly don't know what kind of a map I would look for now if i restarted
