I say 'lay-f' but that's just how we pronounce the actual name Leif here - so it's hard to shake, though I do appreciate it's supposed to be a pun on the English word 'leaf' - but hey, not everyone's English.

I've also heard people pronounce it like a soft mix of 'life' and 'live' (as in alive, not live as in "he lives")...

I pronounce it as Lay-f because even though it's a pun on 'leaf', I consider it more of a visual pun with the spelling rather than for pronunciation. Plus I'm used to pronouncing it as lay-f for the RL name Leif. Like Leif Erikson, as someone else already mentioned!

I'd consider it 99% likely that his name is meant to be pronounced as "Leaf", since he sells plants...despite the human name being pronounced the other way. I just don't see them intentionally making a pun like that without the name to back it up. The intention seems clear.

for the game itself it's most likely pronounced leaf, somehow i doubt they had/knew the more traditional version in mind, and wanted a play on his plants fetish. so it probably should be leaf... but as long as those you're talking to, know who you're talking about, you're both right.

Legit learned in this thread that it's "Layf Erikson" not "Leaf Erikson." All my teachers said it wrong I guess. Dang Muricans.

Leif is a Scandinavian name, in Danish it's pronounced Laif, said in the same way as Life in English, which would also be a pun as he essentially sells life to your island, with plants and all that.

LEAF
My sister was saying Lay-F and it made so much more sense. Like the other pun villagers?
Realised I've been saying them wrong as well thought Croque was Crow key not Croak. Facepalm.
Still calling him Leafy

It could be pronounced as just "Leaf" but also "Layf" or "Laif" (Life).
I just say Leaf. lol...
