I see Youtubers pronounce his name as "Genji" but I've always pronounced it as "Jenji". What is the right way to pronounce it? How do you pronounce it?

This is so weird because I was trying to figure out how to correctly pronounce his name the other day.
After looking on a few websites, hearing Japanese pronunciations of the name, and putting it in google translate, I just call him Genji.
I do think the 'Jenji' pronunciation is cute though >3<

I've heard the name before in Overwatch (one of the character is named Genji) as being pronounced with a hard G, so I've always gone with that way lol

The actual way they would say it in Japan is with a hard G. : )
This.

It's funny because my native language does have more than a few phonetic similarities with Japanese (despite being completely different), so the actual sounds are very "normal", even if it would be written as "Guendji" (with the "-dj" sound for the letter j being not really common in Portuguese)

I pronounce it Genji. As for why, I guess I just thought that's probably the sound g would represent in a romanized Japanese word/name. And I think that assumption came from other Japanese words/names I've heard, like geisha and tengu.

"げんじ" as in Gen-ji. Westerners pronounce names quite weird, one youtuber pronounces Tortimer as Tor-timer (like turtle + old timer) and not like Tortimer like Mortimer lolll

I never thought about the Tor-timer pronunciation omg...

That messed me up bad. I was like, is this the new Kyogre (kye-ogre vs keeyo-grey) mess?
Oh dear don't even get me started on Pokémon pronunciations... (ray-quayza vs ray-quahza is another fun one, or how apparently the official pronunciation for Illumise is ee-loo-mee-say rather than ee-luh-mize... nightmare)

Agreed. Though in Animal Crossing, there are names that are just strange to pronounce at least, not as awful as Pokemon ones go.
