I've been playing the game since release day and been a member of the forum about 6 days after the game released.

The first month or so, NMT currency was all the rage. TBT currency on the other hand has been the most demanded currency on the forums for the last two to three months. Or at least it feels that way based on my experience and interaction with this forum.

Indicators include; NMT/TBT value having a 1:1 ratio, The best shop services posted by members on the nooks cranny forum seek only TBT as payment, the IGB value has been inflating at the same TBT price point (Used to be 1Mil IGB per 100 TBT, and as of late has been offered on some threads at 2 Mil IGB per 50 TBT).

The perspective seems to imply a small finite group of members of the forum are consistently competing against each other to acquire the limited supply of TBT in existence between other forum players. And let's be honest about the TBT supply, the prior statement really only applies to any forum user who is still playing an Animal crossing game, particularly ACNH, as that is the majority of players these days.

For one, I don't even understand how individual members of this forum can have the time available to farm the products/supplies/services they are selling in the first place. Especially if a single user is selling a plethora of options in combination (Unique DIYs, Redds Art, Gulliver Items, Bug/Fish Models, Villager Photos, Hundreds to thousands of NMT). I thought I played a lot of ACNH (Less as of late) and I can't imagine how much time and time traveling it requires to acquire everything being sold out there.

Also, the value of IGB just seems useless these days and that is why TBT is about the only thing of value. Anyone can buy any number of turnips and just quickly turn around and sell them on turnip.exchange. NMT almost holds no value as well. About the only value NMT has, is to find the villagers new to ACNH, farm materials, or increased chances of catching rarer fish/bugs.

How do you feel about TBT currency and the impact it has on your experience with ACNH? I imagine people will feel differently if they are a casual versus hardcore ACNH player.

I don't think tbt is finite. It's dependant to how proactive you are on this forum. it's alot easier for me earn 1 tbt as to 1 nmt. I earn tbt by posting and replying to thread. So I don't mind it.

I farmed gullivarr quite a bit so I don't believe that it's undoable. I have three other alt on my island which does make farming gullivarr a lot easier.

Honestly I don’t know. I’ve rarely spent tbt for items other than mushroom lamps. I find it pretty easy to get the things I need without it. I’ll trade item for item or diy for diy. I’ll give things away for free and people have been very kind with giving me things I didn’t ask for anyway. People are still trading for NMT and bells other places. The other day someone was trading Dom for 100 baby chick costumes.

I don’t really use TBT that much. In fact I can count on one hand how often I’ve used it. I enjoy being on the forum but I don’t really use the shop side of it.
So for me, whenever I do a trade or sell something I always ask for in game bells. I prefer in game bells over NMT’s purely cause I’ve got hundreds of the damned things taking up space in my storage.

Do you use TBT to purchase anything?

Honestly I think TBT impacts ACNH in only a positive way. If you're someone who doesn't care about getting into the collectibles game, you can contribute to the forum and basically get the equivalency of free items from people's shops. A lot of the shops run on TBT because many of us want to grind it out to make a cool collectible lineup, purely for fun.

NMT and IGB as currency were easily skewed because of the multiple duplication glitches, where as at least on this forum, TBT can't be manipulated. IMO NMT to TBT at a 1:1 rate is really crazy for players who are just playing ACNH and not focusing on TBT gaining. Like for instance, I'll probably get 6 or 7 TBT for this post... when I'd barely even be able to print out 7 NMTs in the time it takes me to type this.

Also with the TBT shops competing against each other, it's even better for people who don't care about their TBT, as better and better deals will come along.

shops owned by ppl who farm a lot are seeking tbt for collectibles, while some others are selling for tbt to afford items/diys/in-game currency from those shops, lol

i prefer using nmt > igb > tbt since im saving up for art comms and i dont play nh frequently anymore, but honestly its undecided since people have different preferences of trading, buying, and selling

I prefer having collectibles, and I need a ton of tbt to fund for the collectibles I'd like to get (pretty sure all my collectible wants at this point are like 2k tbt minimum, with some likely reaching beyond the 10k tbt range)

meanwhile, I just let rng give me new villagers, so I've no real need to hoard hundreds of thousands of nmt

so, at least personally speaking, the one I value more out of these options is clear as day

As someone who posts quite a lot, I don't mind it as a currency at all. When paying it I have plenty, and when people want to buy stuff with it from me I don't mind it either because I know I can easily turn it back around into stuff again.

Honestly the biggest issue with TBT for me is that the abbreviation makes no sense. What is it supposed to be? Bell Tree Bells? Because that would be BTB. Am I paying people with 'The Bell Tree'? As in, "That will be five the bell tree, please?"

I think the best benefit of TBT currency is that, as far as I know, it cannot be "duped," like all forms of currency in New Horizons either are or were at some time. So it retains its value. And you can earn it very easily just by posting in the forum.

I could be mistaken, but I believe calling The Bell Tree's Bells "TBT" stems from people making trades in Animal Crossing games needing to specify whether they were paying with in-game bells (IGB), or TBT's bells. And people started leaving off the "bells" because it was implied, and people will always shorten things when communicating by writing. And now the currency is just TBT. If TBT's currency had another name from the start, I'm sure we would just call it that. But with two kinds of bells being used to buy the same things, specifications and abbreviations came about. Or so I assume.

i think the reason that nmt was so valuable at the beginning was because shortly after new horizons came out, tbt 3.0 happened and the bell system was frozen so the only currencies really available at the time were igb and nmt and plus, the game was still new which heightened people’s wants for in-game currencies and items rather than tbt.

i don’t mind it as a currency, though - the majority of people wanting it can be frustrating, especially for new members, but earning it is easy as long as you’re active and it can help you in-game, too, since for example, 100 tbt is a lot easier to earn than a million bells or 100 nmts ;u;

I voted "mildly positive" because I have no interest in collectibles at all. So, buying items with TBT is ideal because I can get things I want in exchange for getting rid of a currency I don't care much about! Plus, by posting regularly, it's fairly easy to accumulate.

That being said, I think that it's harder for people who don't enjoy chatting as much to be able to get into the TBT market since you earn TBT from posting. It prevents people who aren't very talkative, or who may be shy for whatever reason, from being able to participate in the market. Also, I am unsure as to the value of a currency which only really has value on one site (and for one purpose). From what I can tell, the collectibles market doesn't seem to be too big, so you're essentially relying on a small group of players who like collectibles who really want TBT, and the rest who only use TBT because it's wanted. If that collectible market goes away, so too does interest in TBT.

In terms of an overall game experience, focusing on raising TBT alone could be considered a detriment - in fact, we could even say it has no impact whatsoever on New Horizons gameplay, because it's strictly limited to this forum and this forum only. What happens if our forums shut down or collectibles are removed? What if you want to trade across multiple sites? Then you need multiple currencies to be able to participate everywhere. At least when NMT/IGB was the main currency of choice, it was something that could be readily used across websites, and it was a conversion rate that was fairly easy to understand. Using TBT requires having knowledge of yet another currency, and that might not be accessible for many people, especially new players.

Still, if you really have no use for TBT, at least some shops take IGB/NMT, and you can always purchase other currencies using TBT to trade on other sites and to make a good profit with, seeing as TBT are functionally useless. You can buy items for pretty much nothing, which is the main benefit of TBT for most folks I think.

Honestly the biggest issue with TBT for me is that the abbreviation makes no sense.
"officially", based on the tbt marketplace's info blurb, it's 'tbt bells' in full, but the bells part just gets dropped, as it's usually pretty easy to tell the forum currency and forum itself apart in context

so I guess based off of this, the full actual abbreviation should be tbtb, but I've never once heard tbt called as that (while I do know some people use btb typically)

As a newer, less active (and therefore poorer) member of this forum it can be frustrating to have so many shops only asking for tbt. But, as many others have said, it’s so much easier to make tbt than IGB or NMT. It’s also a lot more stable due to the fact it can only be earned “fairly” and cannot be duped.
I have started using Nookazon a lot more for things I need/want immediately so NMTs still hold a lot of worth in my eyes. Now I don’t need to island hop for villagers, I have a big stock of NMTs that I’m still hoarding for trades on Nookazon.
This forum has some of the cheapest prices for items compared to Nookazon or discord, and I definitely think that’s due to not only the honest, fair and amazing community members, but also the extra type of currency available.

I doubt it's just time and time traveling. there's probably duping involved. it makes no sense otherwise

It isn't finite. You earn it just by being active and posting. I've always thought it was a good currency. I can spend it without losing anything in game. To people who don't care about collectibles on the forum, it is currency they can use that they wouldn't otherwise have use for and give it to people who do. I don't really see a downside except some stuff being overpriced but that's not unique to tbt as a currency.

not necessarily, I TT'ed to get all my gulliver stuff and honestly it took me days! As far as I was aware all duping glitches had been patched except the one where you use a second character and go to their island but seriously are people that desperate to con people out of their hard earned bells/NMT? I use TBT primarily for collectibles, if there is something I really want in game I will use my TBT for that.
