How do you decide on dreamies?

So I have been going nuts trying to figure out my "dreamies" while still having all the personalities in my village (i love too many normal villagers lol). So I think I have decided to keep the Uchi, cranky and smug villagers I like (they are too hard to come by and I hate most of that type lol) and let the others cycle after a while. THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY CUTE VILLAGERS!! 10 is not enough!

How do you decide? Do you go for personality, village theme, or just by looks?
 
I don't do dreamies, i let my villagers move in as they decide, and on the rare occasion i get a villager i really like and they become my favourite and that's it xD

And then one day if i have a town full of cute villagers, if one that is cuter comes along, i can let go of the less cute one etc.
 
I go by cuteness! First before getting anything I make sure to get all the pwp I want out the way {so I don't need to worry about needing a smug to unlock this etc.} but then I just go by who I find cute when I see them in my town. Though even then it's super hard, as obviously so many are cute 10 just doesn't do it >.<

I thought about doing this but I just can't let them go! XD

I need to unlock all the pwp :(. Maybe when it is all unlocked I will just go by cute XD.
 
My dreamies came from different places, actually. It's mainly a combination of sentimentality/memories from previous AC games, looks, and me just randomly falling in love with move-ins.

Kiki and Ribbot are my two favorite villagers and both have been in all my towns (except Ribbot in City Folk) so I had to have them again. They were the only two dreamies I had at the beginning of the game.
I had Octavian in Wild World and really liked him so I decided to get him again.
Merengue was a starting villager and Skye was one of my original ten villagers and I fell in love with them and decided to keep them. Ditto Kyle, though he moved out (I have cycled 16 though so I can get him back whenever Opal or Bones moves)
I asked Diana to move in via the campsite planning to let her go eventually but I got attached and now she's stuck with me.
Flora, Phoebe, and Stitches are the only ones I chose because of looks without ever interacting with them previously. I had not planned on Stitches, because I thought he'd be impossible to get, but he moved into my best friends town and she's not very fond of him so she's giving him to me.
 
There's only maybe 3 or 4 villagers that I love so much I could never let them leave. I don't work towards a full town of dreamies until I have unlocked all the PWP's I want from the villagers that are already there. Then I wait for them to move and move in a dreamie in their place.
 
I currently have three towns and with the exception of my newest one, they are full of villagers that I love and can never leave.

Sometimes I base my dreamies off of looks, others grew on me (Ken) and some have personal reasons...like Flurry and Ruby. Especially Ruby.
 
I don't do dreamies either. I let the luck of the draw choose who lives in my town, and if I get attached then so be it. :3
 
I don't do dreamies as I intend to have all 333 villagers live in my town. With that said, the ones that I find nicer or better will most probably have a longer shelf life than the rest but ultimately, will move out when time comes.
 
Looks, to be honest. I don't really care for their personality -- although I would have loved each of every one. I also decide regarding the animal type -- and would prefer not having two animals of the same type.

Some of my dreamies -- Stitches, Joey, Carmen -- are from old games and used to be my starting characters, which is why I'm so attached to them.

I do plan on playing and experiencing many different animals, however, since I don't want to have all my dreamies all at once. I would like to experience other animals as well. I think I'll be getting all of my dreamies only when my town is finally complete, with all PWP's in place.

I have an excel sheet that also includes how many letters I have sent to the villagers. 12 which is so, so, so far away from 333, hahaha.

If I maybe need to figure out who to be my snooty villager, I look at them all and chooose the one who I like most... Then they are my dreamies.... Although I find some of the normals are cuter. Again, if I find the hamsters cute and ESPECIALLY Apple, but I already have a peppy villager I think i HAVE to get a hamster, and that could be Flurry, even know I find Molly cuter.

It might sound weird (and confusing), but I like my dreamies. That is maybe because I otherwise almost always get the ugly ones.
 
At first i was like, omg 10 is not enough!! There are soo many cute villagers that i want!! Then it like took me a year to narrow it down to 8. You dont HAVE to have 10 dreamies, i mean, you can have as many as you want i guess! But i usually go for the more natural looking animals that have realistic fur colours, not crazy ones like pink or blue lol although i looove some odd coloured villagers :) ive got 4 normals, 2 lazies and 2 snooties. Theyre the cutest ones i think out of all villagers, but it could also change at any moment lol i change my list all the time :p currently here are my dreamiessss..

I just started a second town and worked out my Dreamie list like this:
At least one villager for each personality.
Only one of each species.
I knew I would have Margie, Ceasar and Bob, so...
I decided to have only villagers that were originally in Animal Forest.
This gives me my theme of retro/iconic villagers. I've just started but really enjoying it. My first town has just the most random villagers, lol. I think for WiiU I'll go for all new villagers to shake things up.
