How do I get rid of Nooklink? RANT.

I thought the phone was very smart actually. However, I would also like to rearrange my apps!
Concerning the critterpedia, I think it's very useful! It shows whether you donated something too. What I am missing in the app, however, is being able to click on one and then just swipe through like you can with the DIY app. Instead when I tap one critter and want to see the next, I have to navigate back to the overview.

Oh, and with the NookShopping app: I wish there was a filter in the app to leave out all things you cannot order (I mean, why be in a shopping app?!) and that you could type something generic when searching (like 'kitchen') which would then show items that are, generally speaking, placed in a kitchen.

I honestly think AC is not "all about smartphones" like you claim.

I think of the Nookphone as just a main menu where I can find all the stuff I need to find. Would you rather have everything on the bottom/top of the screen similar to City Folk? Because I'm happy it's all condensed into one place.

I do agree with your point about my villagers talking so much about visitors... I wish they did less of that.

However most of the apps I use on a daily basis. We knew about this phone as soon as the game was announced so I'm not sure what you expected?

I honestly don’t know what to tell you in regards to the Nookphone. You knew for months in advance that the apps were going to be a big part of the game, so you made an informed decision when you bought it. I actually agree that the concept doesn’t mesh too well with an Island getaway, but that’s what they chose to go for and that’s what I knew I’d be getting.

In regards to villagers mentioning visitors, it might make you feel better to know that they do ease up on it. From my experience, they’ll mention people for a few days and then never again. If you really want to avoid that dialogue, you could decide to only visit others’ Islands for trades.

(but like come on, they live on an Island with only a few other people—of course they’ll be excited about someone new coming by!)
I agree. The Nookphone was featured pretty prominently pre-release so why get mad at something you knew was going to be a big part of the game. Also, I’d say it does fit. Think about, would you like to be on a deserted island with no form of communication beside smoke signals?

Villagers do stop talking about visitors fairly quickly. In New Leaf they would mention someone you traded with months ago lol. It never bothered me, personally speaking, I like when my villagers other people. It makes the world seem more alive.

Its.... just a UI? And a way better one than in previous games at that.
You knew about this before release (as well as made many remarks about not wanting to buy the game for this reason....) so I dont see why you are complaining still?
Plus the game isnt all about phones?
Its.... Just the UI... you can go an entire day not opening the UI at all and just collect the nook miles at the end of the day. You can never use the best friend feature or just out yourself as offline so you never get the notifs.
Idk what you think animal crossing is
But uh
Its whatever the devs decide to make it
So yeah. Nookphone? That's animal crossing 100%.

Villagers talking about my friends is annoying though since we all visit each other a lot. Its never ending lol

In your original post you said "Nooklink" (which is part of the Nintendo App), yet everyone is talking about the in-game Nook Phone? Which is it you are disliking? You can just not use the Nintendo app on your smartphone if you don't like it.

I do find that my villagers stop talking about visitors about a day or two after they visited unless they spend a long time on my island. So, they talk about my husband, brother, and one of my friends a lot because they normally are the most frequent and spend the longest amount of time on my island. I can see how it could bother you though if you don't want them talking about anyone else but you.

I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s noticed that! They’ll bring up my partner frequently (and frankly, quite gossipy—like are you all just talking about the nature of our relationship behind my back?! lol) while only mentioning it was fun that X from X was around. I really like that they can distinguish between visitors like that—even though I’m nervous they’re going to start pushing for a wedding invitation any day now! XD

I like the phone and what it brings to the table, like others have pointed out it's mostly a UI thing.

I do wish I could put it to "do not disturb" though, for the occasions where I just wanna chill on my island and not be notified of things haha

If it weren't for technology we wouldn't have animal crossing. IDK, I think this is just a weird thing to complain about. I don't feel like smartphones are being "shoved down my throat" by being in ACNH, they are literally just keeping up with the times. It's a cute, convenient way of accessing features like the camera, terraforming, messaging best friends, the critterpedia, the nook shopping, etc.

But you are entitled to your opinion.
No need to state the obvious reguarding technology.

Again, I'm not talking about technology involved in MAKING the game.
I'm talking about the intrusive use/abuse of it in a series like AC, where many people play to ESCAPE the day to day mayhem of technology.

Hear hear!

I agree with OP completely.

Listen, I spend AT LEAST HALF MY ENTIRE LIFE in HOUSES.
And this game has the audacity to shove MULTIPLE HOUSES down my throat.

Frankly it’s infuriating.
How do we disable houses?
You have no clue what I'm talking about.
I must keep it in mind that alot of people here are kids.

I never understand your arguments. You keep claiming that Nintendo doesn't care about what your crowd likes/hates but have you ever stoped and thought that maybe the people who do like these features are just larger and louder? Like I'm all for opinions but calling out a company for a game design that only you and a small amount of people dislike is just plain old silly. Nintendo can't make every single person happy and that's means there's always the possibilities they change something that you're not gonna agree with. THATS LIFE...

Can't say much about the phones but I find that villagers mostly talk about people who visit most frequently, so if you've recently traded, you'll hear about them. But if you stop trading with randoms and you have friends come over instead, your villagers will stop talking about the randoms.

I do a bunch of trading in periods and I've found that after a few days, my villagers won't even mention the random people I've traded with anymore and mostly talk about my sis and friends

I've done heaps of trading and it's all they talk about. :(

Trade at other islands as many ppl have said. That problem is solved.

the phone...I don’t under what the huge issue is...it’s just a menu..what’s the problem...I get it..you said you spend your whole life on the phone. Great now in the game you can open your phone a very small portion of the time you play.

Curious, John, what is your favorite part of the game? I'm not trying to antagonize, I'm genuinely curious what part you like best.
As am I.

The nookphone is practical, in some ways, but I feel like the inclusion of a smart device as an explanation for UI's presence in a game is... Weird? Lazy? But also trying too hard? Like we don't need excuses for menus. We know we're playing a video game. Kind of cute and cheeky in something like GTA, where the context is appropriate.
The most glaring example imo is Breath of the Wild. WTF is a tablet doing in my Zelda

Its annoying when villagers speak about players that havent even spoken to them like...the least they could do is mention players that speak to them not randos LOL

Whoops, I read the point wrong. Haha. Forgive me, it's past midnight here.

But I still do respectfully disagree. We knew it was a feature coming, regardless.

My intention is not to be harsh or mean. From my understanding(correct me if I am wrong) having seen your past posts, you rarely seem excited or looking forward to various features but instead dreaded them. Its absolutely fine to have a play style you enjoy but as new information was known about NH, it didn’t seems like it lined up with how you enjoy the game. I understand it can be frustrating that you may not enjoy a game that you have waited for years for but unfortunately it does happen.

Nookphone doesn’t really bother me, Yes initially it did feel out of place but we did knew about it pretty early on.

Now Villagers talking about visitors they haven’t seen or talked too, that can be annoying for some. For me personally i don’t care.

So what you're saying is, you play AC, a game, which is technology, to escape the day to day mayhem of technology? Sound logic. Also, note that the phone app in game is nothing more than a stylistic UI choice to condense the menu. You're too hung up on the fact that the menu is in the shape of a smartphone.

The smartphone skinned menu is no more intrusive or abusive than the standard UI of days old. That's not opinion; it's fact. The act of opening the smartphone is a shoulder button tap to bring up a host of menu navigation options. Before, in the older games, you still had a host of other icons to tap, except they were bordering your screen, obscuring your field of view, as opposed to being thrown into the phone (which is essentially the same as a folder to hold your files.)

I mean , it seems you kinda dislike the online functions and the new modern functions of New Horizons but...

The online options have been like that ever since Wild World? The more recent the game is , the more invested into online options will be the game.
And as for the whole Nooklink and the phone app , it's like saying you hate modern options from New Leaf like QR Codes just because "it's too technological" .

I thought that , unless this is your first AC game , you would already be used to modern options and the use of internet in the games?

Heck , even the first Animal Crossing had some modern stuff (Connecting your GBA to your Gamecube , sending gifts to another person , a departamental store in an isolated and very small village? how?)

I mean , in the end games have to evolve , Animal Crossing could not stay in just being a small village , it's good we got stuff like a new city , a shopping district , a new phone , use of an internet connection to play and trade with friends.
If you wanted the game to have zero technology like the very first game , Animal Crossing wouldn't have another game after Wild World or even the GCN one...
