Harry Potter

Its been a while since I read the books or watched the movies. How is it inaccurate? I dont remember
I've only watched the movies since my sister was a huge fan of the books, but didn't have anyone to go to the theaters with. I didn't mind it since it was actually a nice tradition that we did throughout the movie series.

I forget what film it was, but in one of them one of Harry's friends dies during a competition. The way he is so distraught over it seems like he is losing a friend he really adored, but they barely focused on that friend in the movies. Turns out this friend had a lot of parts in the books, but they omitted most of their scenes in the movie which really undersold his death and how upset Harry was over his death.

You're talking about Fred Weasley

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone. Neville is the one knew about the dragon egg but Draco overheard them. They got busted at the tower where they were meeting Charlie's friends

I know who that is since my one online friend was a huge Harry Potter fan, but I had to look them up. It was Cedric. I could be remembering wrong, but it felt like they were only in the one movie where they died during the competition. Harry was so upset over it because they were really good friends, but that's only made evidently clear in the books from what I gathered. They didn't really get as much screentime as they should've if that makes sense?

Yeah it does and it was Cedric who died. I can tell you why I was only him who died in that movie and the book

You know why Harry Potter was upset when Cedric died?

So he was upset then Cedric died because they had a bond before the first event of the Wizard competition. Harry told him what it was so when it came to grt the trophy. They got it together and it was a porkey. When Cedric was killed. It took Harry back to when his parents died.

I read all the Harry Potter books in 8th grade and enjoyed each and every one of them. Even though it was an old series by now, I did my best to stay out of the spoilers online and it was worth it. It's too bad the author isn't really a good person anymore, though :<

I also used to have the three spin-off books (Fantastic Beasts, Quidditch, and Beedle the Bard) because I remember getting briefly fixated on the Wizarding World as a result, but I regret buying them because of the above. I no longer have these since I donated them to my local library.

I loved the books too, they are well written and extremely imaginative! But @Suguri, you know I love you friend and I dont want to start an argument... but...

Why do people always have to point out the authors personal views in threads like this? I know what she says is upsetting, I actually agree with you all who think so! But with the new rules on TBT, political conversations aren't allowed.

I am not targeting you, trust me! Its has just been a common theme, and it almost seems like a taunt to get someone to argue/debate. I dont think thats right.

I dont beleive for a second you are trying to start an argument, but others have many times, and I feel like its commonplace to bring up the authors personal views to bring down others on here who enjoy Harry Potter.

I just want people to be able to enjoy the content, not the creator, to have fun on here. I dont mean any disrespect my friend!

Ah, my bad! It's all good!

And you're right, I didn't mean to stir up debate and belittle anyone who still likes the books. Unfortunately it's hard for me to talk about Harry Potter without bringing her up, and it didn't help that I forgot about the new guidelines. 😭

Sorry again to Shawn and all the Harry Potter fans.

My personal views aside, I'm gonna try my best to "separate the art from the artist" and say that I'm actually open to rereading the books tbh. So maybe I could check out the books and/or rent the movies from my library in the future. Not that I'm a fan, I just like experiencing cool stories.

OK so very random memory but I remember one time I was at my cousin’s house and her cousins (related through her dad, so I’m not blood-related) were there. I was trying to be nice and asked the girl if she liked SpongeBob. She said her parents didn’t allow her to watch that.

Now, this was the mid-2000s, when SpongeBob was at its peak, so I found that weird. Then I asked her if she was excited about the new Harry Potter movie. She said her parents didn’t allow her to watch that, either, because the magic went against God.

I have no issues with religion, but that left me with nothing to talk about. What 2000s kid didn’t watch SpongeBob or Harry Potter? It shocked me.

I have this one good friend who I've known for over 20 years now, and she never read Harry Potter when it was at the height of its popularity, although at the same time she read tons of other books. We even discussed some of the other fantasy series back then. I always assumed it was because she's from a very religious family and that her parents probably forbade her from reading it, but I never asked to not make things awkward I guess.

I'm not sure if she caught up on the Harry Potter series after all these years, but I think that's possible. Next time I visit I'll take a closer look at her bookcase.

Hi everyone,

Just a friendly reminder to please keep the discussion on topic. Everyone is welcome to share their thoughts and perspectives, whether they enjoy Harry Potter or feel unable to support the franchise for humanitarian reasons. At the same time, not everyone needs to share the same opinion, so please avoid turning comments into a debate or back-and-forth, and avoid veering into politics, which are no longer permitted under TBT rules.

Thanks for your understanding!

Hi all!

I just want to reiterate a point I made earlier. Everyone is welcome to express their thoughts and perspectives on the series, and this can include mentioning the author where necessary. All we would ask is that others don't use that as an opportunity to engage in debate or discussing politics.

Thanks for understanding 💗
