Harry Potter

I recently took the sorting hat quiz again since I was doing a social post for work and I got Ravenclaw.
Cool. Did you do the website?

I think it’s ok to like Harry Potter (though I personally can’t anymore) but the problem comes when you’re buying merchandise and otherwise funding the author’s harmful actions. Better to buy it secondhand

I unfortunately grew up with the Harry Potter books and movies, which as Cirice correctly put it, made me feel very betrayed when I learned about how the author chooses to spend her money and wield her influence. I am proud to say I have not contributed any money nor positive word-of-mouth to the HP series in ... probably a decade now. Trans rights are human rights, and it personally would not sit right with me if I contributed to that wealth which, currently, right now, stands against these humans' rights.

It sucked to say goodbye to something that I really did love as a kid, but as my moral compass was concerned, it needed to be done. It's difficult, if not impossible, for me to separate the art from the artist, when buying that art gives powerful bigoted people money.

In hindsight, ditching HP did at least broaden my horizons. There is some other really good magic-themed media out there! (I won't derail by talking about that, though)
I get the reluctance to leave the series behind, and I will not preach to change people's minds, but I figured I would offer my perspective as someone who did once like this series, but felt I could not go on engaging with it. And per the staff's recommendation, I am stating my feelings about the series and will not be elaborating nor responding to any argument on these points in this thread.

I have a theory as to why the Dursleys weren’t very nice to Harry and it isn’t because of Petunia’s jealousy of her sister. My theory is that it was the piece of Voldemort’s soul that made Harry an unintended living Horcrux that affected their actions and behavior towards Harry. I think that Petunia tried to he very caring towards Harry when he was still a baby and after his parents were killed but the part of Voldemort stuck inside baby Harry couldn’t understand or comprehend being cared for and was trying to reject any type of affection by influencing Petunia’s emotional state. We saw how Slytherin’s Locket affected the Golden Trio’s emotions whenever they came into contact with it with Hermione being a total emotional mess that cried constantly and Harry and Ron becoming extremely angry snd confrontational every time it was their turn to guard the Locket before they could destroy it. As Harry got older, his own personality managed to overtake Voldemort’s influence as he only had a tiny bit of Voldemort inside his body and was able to have his own thoughts and actions. As a baby, Harry wouldn’t have very much control over his own emotions and thoughts.

Being an unintentional Horcrux is also why Harry was virtually immune to the Imperius Curse and could shake it off as if nothing had happened because the piece of Voldemort’s soul inside Harry refused to be dominated by anyone using brute force. Of course one of the darkest wizards ever isn’t going to bow down and do cartwheels when placed under the Imperius Curse. He thought he was above everyone else in the world.

Petunia had tried to be a good aunt to Harry to make up how she had treated her own sister and to help her deal with the guilt of pushing her away but Voldemort’s soul kept tainting her thoughts and enhanced her jealousy of Lily being a witch and subtly used mind games without her realizing it.

Were anyone else’s early crushes Matthew Lewis (Neville) and Rupert Grint (Ron)? 😍

(I also wrote fan letters to both, but only got a response from Matthew, which I understand. The main trio must have been flooded back in the day.)

Anyway, I read the books, saw the movies, and played some of the video games. I remember enjoying the Goblet of Fire game, but got lost in the woods! I also had the Order of the Phoenix for DS.

I still like Rupert, since he’s thicker and bearded now. (More my type)

That's actually an interesting take and I never really thought of it like that.

I respect your choices.

That's an interesting take to be honest
Yep. The prime example is Dolores Umbridge. She’s like the only Harry Potter character that’s more hatable than Jar Jar Binks (the most hated character from the entire film industry). If a character from your works is more hated than Jar Jar, then that tells a lot (especially if you intend on making the character hatable by all). The other villains, like the Dursleys, Draco, and Wormtail, they’re just more hatable than Voldemort.

If I had to rank a list of Harry Potter villains from most hatable (at the top) and least hatable (at the bottom), then Voldemort will be right at the bottom of the list, next to the Death Eaters.
