Me and my mom have been arguing over what the actual point of Halloween is. She thinks that scaring people will get me sent to juvenile hall. According to her, that is cruelty, and is wrong, that I will get the cops called on me.
Now, this was over whether I could go to my friends uncle's house, and scare people, or go to my other friend's halloween party.
This is the part she still doesn't get after I explained it to her.

People purpously go there to get scared
Now after I explained this to her, she still thought it was wrong. She then told me to go search it up, and I found 2 other people that agree with me that Halloween is for scaring people. And, after I found that, I then came here.
In your perspective, what is the point of Halloween?

The actual point was that Halloween originated from ancient times which people believed there were such things as ghost and monsters. The idea of wearing costumes was to blend in with the monsters, so they wouldn't eat you. Over time, it became a festivity kind of activity, people started making it a bit more creative (hence getting candy and going out at night). So really, that's the point in my eyes, and it's true.
Oh... and to answer your question, scaring people isn't bad unless it's like really serious (like intimidating people using real life weapons) but if it's plastic, people will get the joke.
The point of halloween is to dress up so the spirts won't find you.
The point of Trick or Treating is poeple give you a treat so you won't play a trick on him like a ghoust.
People go to haunted houses to get scared. I'd be depressed if I didn't get scared on Halloween. For instance, today at a haunted house there were clowns. They scared the crap out of me, but I enjoyed it. ^_^
