Giving villagers away privately

I only started cycling several days ago, and a few minutes ago gave away Mallard to a friend via private messaging rather than in a public thread.

That said, my new experience has me wondering about other cyclers here, especially the ones who have cycled for much longer: I wonder how large a percentage of villagers are given away in 'private' from your cycling town? Maybe 50%? Maybe a small but still notable 10%? Maybe too small a percentage to guess?

All of my villager transactions are done either through PMs or VMs.

I give away villagers in private when It comes to my close friends. They take priority over others whom I don't know.

When I first started my cycling town I had a few villagers that were tier 5 that no one really wanted and so I usually found them homes in private. Most of my villagers now are pretty popular so I get a lot of hits on them. Certain villagers that people I know in real life want are reserved but I make it known that they are reserved.

none lol i don't have many friends so i don't reserve any villagers unless its for me but other then that i do all of my adoptions in my thread or on tumblr

I don't cycle regularly due to lack of time and skill, but I've so far been about 70% Giveaways and 30% private. It will probably be all Giveaways from now on, tho. Probably.

I utilize both at the same time. I post on my thread, and if no one responds, I'll go find someone privately. If I have a villager that just moved in and is one of my friends dreamies, of course they'll take priority.( This hasn't happened yet.)

I don't cycle and I've only had two villagers move out so far. The first one, Sheldon, I opened a giveaway thread for him but I couldn't find a home for him... I was so sad
And then Bones moved out recently, I did a public giveaway thread for him on ACC and found a home for him.
I'll probably keep doing public giveaways for villagers because normally when one of mine come up moving, it's not as popular of villager and I don't know anyone that wants them

How do you find someone who gives away villagers privately? I need four more villagers for my all dog town (Cookie, Portia, Mac and Bones) but I haven't seen any of them on the villager trading thread. I've posted for them on the "looking for" thread but I don't think any cyclers actually read that. Any advice would be appreciated!

Well, I usually search the last 2-3 pages of the "Looking For. ." thread for someone who wants the current villager in boxes. There's really no way to tell instead of making this kind of thread or looking in their signature (If they state it) though, so it's really just a matter of luck and timing, I guess.

Whenever I have a villager leaving my cycle town, I always look at the Looking For thread, at least the last 4 or 5 pages. If I find someone who wants my villager, & they're online, I'll send a quick PM & give it 30 minutes or so. I'm given away quite a few Tier 3, 4, & 5 villagers that way. I prefer to find homes for my cycle villagers rather than just void them if at all possible.

I do a search for people looking for the villager I have moving before I post to my cycling thread. If there's a recent post, I make a private offer. Just a courtesy to someone who posts their wants before opening the offer up to someone who may just kind of want that villager. If there's more than one "looking for", other cyclers get first chance, then lurkers or those who previously adopted from me, then most recent. It's about half and half, post vs. private.

I've done both, posted giveaways and went into the looking for thread. I also check out the signatures of the members that are on and will blip them if they're looking for a villager that I have in boxes. That's what happened to Tia and one of my Marshals because they weren't wanted, but I did have a wanted villager in my cycling town and I was afraid to wait for a raffle and risk someone moving into the place that had been made available for them. If I know you're looking, you're active and on I'll try to match you up at least 30% of the time.

I started a cycling thread once, but I was too pressured by it. No one even responded, so I closed it.

Now when I have a villager moving, I look at the "Looking For" topic and see if anyone wants them. If no one responds/I can't even find anyone, they go to tumblr.
